The words of this child speaking to Reuters following the shooting in San Diego weighs heavy on the hearts of every pediatrician. No child should have to witness gun violence or carry the trauma of violence into a classroom. Children deserve to go to school without the threat of shootings and without associating going to school with fear, lockdowns, or loss.

As pediatricians, we know that exposure to violence - whether experienced firsthand or repeatedly seen on screens - can have lasting effects on children’s mental and emotional health.

Gun violence is a serious threat to the health and safety of children and teens and AAP will continue to advocate for evidence-based policies that protect young people and help ensure every child can learn, gather at school, and grow without fear. Donnalee Lozeau is the director of a new statewide program that will distribute roughly $200 million in federal funding this year toward rural healthcare needs in New Hampshire. Over five years, the state expects to receive a total of $1 billion dollars.

Stephanie serves as the Senior Director of Workforce Development and Recruitment at the Bi-State Primary Care Association, where she is dedicated to strengthening the pipeline of clinicians across New Hampshire and Vermont. She leads the NH/VT Recruitment Center and manages a variety of federal, state, and foundation-funded initiatives focused on supporting workforce growth in primary care, dental, mental health, and substance use disorder treatment.

With extensive experience serving on statewide and regional commissions and work groups, Stephanie brings a strong collaborative lens to addressing workforce challenges across the health care system. Her insight and leadership in recruitment and retention efforts will be a valuable addition to the Advisory Board.
