If you are a parent of a child with vision loss, you are not alone. You can connect with other parents, advocate for your child, and reach out to educational services (like those Future In Sight provides) to find a sense of community.

Certified Orientation & Mobility Specialist Rhonda Haller works with students with visual impairments to teach them how to navigate their physical environment. Read her insights on parenting a child with vision loss by visiting the link in the comments.

PD: The first slide shows an illustration of a mother kneeling and speaking to her child. Text states across the next slide, Raising a child with differences can feel isolating. However, there are many avenues for finding a sense of security and community: advocating for your child, utilizing education services, connecting with other parents, and working with a TVI or COMS. The final slide pictures Rhonda Haller with the title of her post.

Congratulations to the 2025 Access Award Winner, New Hampshire State Representative Mark Paige!

Every year, Future In Sight selects an individual or organization that shows exceptional and innovative efforts in eliminating barriers to those who are visually impaired. As a State Representative, Mark championed legislation that makes voting more accessible to individuals with disabilities. He was recognized and received his award at the Walk For Sight.

Future In Sight also honors individuals through the Jo Adcock Award. This award is given to someone who shows outstanding service in the blindness field.

Do you know someone who should be walking up the State House steps at next year's Walk For Sight? We are now accepting nominations for both the Access and Jo Adcock Awards through the link in the comments.

We’re recognizing the individuals we serve who supported us and advocated for themselves at the Walk For Sight.

Jules N. has been with Future In Sight for over two decades, which combined with his own ingenuity has allowed him to live independently. A group of individuals who attended a Silver Retreat last year formed such a bond during the week-long program, they reconnected and joined us a team. Denise D., a long-time advocate for the blind and visually impaired community and Future In Sight, walked with her team the Opto-mists and was the Grand Marshal at last year's Walk For Sight. This year, the torch passed to 11-year-old Jayden A., who has worked with one of our Teachers of Students with Visual Impairments (TSVIs) for the past several years and made an inspiring speech surrounded by his family as the team Jayden's Troopers.

Using the tools and training they received from Future In Sight, these individuals were able to expertly navigate a very busy Downtown Concord while bringing awareness to the blind and visually impaired community. To learn more about the services Future In Sight provides, visit the link in the comments.

The next slide shows Denise and her team holding up the photo frame. Finally, Jayden and his family stand on the State House steps as Jayden makes his speech.

Welcoming an individual with vision loss into your home can seem intimidating, but with a few simple adjustments you can create a safe and accommodating environment.

In addition to securing rugs, improving lighting, and clearly marking steps and stairways, Occupational Therapist (OT) Christelle Ambrose goes into detail about the updates you can make by visiting the link in the comments.

PD: The first slide shows a woman helping a man read a bottle with the text: Home updates to welcome an individual with vision loss. The second says, secure or remove throw rugs with a photo of a rug being rolled up. On the third slide, a senior woman reads a book by lamplight and text states: Improve lighting throughout. The next slide shows caution tape on the edge of a stair with text saying, Clearly mark steps and stairways. The final slide says: read our blog post to learn more.
