🏥 29,000 Granite Staters Could Lose Medicaid Coverage Under New Work Requirements

“These changes could affect more Granite Staters than only those who lose their Medicaid coverage,” said Jessica Williams, NHFPI senior policy analyst and the author of the report. “When more people lose health coverage, hospitals and other health care providers may be left covering the costs of care that patients can't afford to pay for. Those costs could ultimately be passed on to Granite Staters with insurance, including private insurance plans, through higher premiums. How New Hampshire implements these requirements could have major consequences for the state’s health care system as a whole.”

🍎 Who will teach New Hampshire's next generation of students?

New Hampshire schools are projected to have more than 1,100 teacher openings every year over the next decade. But new NHFPI research finds several trends that could make filling those positions increasingly difficult.

Fewer NH students are earning education degrees, more school employees are approaching retirement age, and teacher pay is falling behind other professions and neighboring states. Add in New Hampshire's high housing and child care costs, and recruiting and retaining teachers could become even more challenging.

👶 Child care for an infant in New Hampshire now costs more than $16,000 a year on average at a center. For a toddler, it’s more than $15,000.

New Hampshire’s Child Care Scholarship Program helps thousands of families afford care, but many families still struggle with costs while providers face workforce and capacity challenges.
