Experience Nordic Culture with Us.
Sveaborg Lodge # 449 is a fellowship that shares a common interest in Nordic culture and heritage. Sveaborg is a member of Vasa Order of America. Members of Sveaborg Lodge typically come together in the evening on the third Friday of every month for a program and dinner. The dinner is traditional Swedish dinner. For more information see the calendar. Most of the members are from central Contra Costa and western Solano counties (Concord, Walnut Creek, Martinez, Pleasant Hill, Antioch, Danville, Benicia and Fairfield). We also have members from as far as Berkeley, Livermore, Oakland, Castro Valley, Novato and Redding
At our meeting you can meet members with different interests in the Nordic culture such as, cooking, crafts, dancing, film, genealogy, literature, music and travel. You can also meet with people who talk your ancestor’s language.
Our meetings are dress casual, are performed in English, are conducted with minimal ritual and formality, and are for all ages. Most of our meetings are open for guests.
Sveaborg has an annual Christmas dinner, including traditional Swedish food, such as herring, Jansson’s Temptation, meatballs and ham. Home-made glögg is also served. After dinner, there is a Lucia celebration with the children from the Children’s club performing all the traditional Swedish Christmas songs.
