Overview:
Starting October 15, Scouting America is upgrading its renewal reminder texts by introducing "Sam," an AI assistant. Instead of receiving a generic, no-reply text from an unknown number, families will now get personalized texts from a verified "Scouting America" contact and can have two-way conversations with Sam to get help.
How Sam Works
Timing:
• Families will receive their first text from Sam about 45 days before their membership expires, with one or two follow-ups if they haven't renewed.
Smart Interactions:
• Families: Consolidates reminders for multiple children into a single text with separate links.
• Adult Leaders: Reminds them to complete their required Safeguarding Youth Training before renewing.
• Resolutions: Sam stops texting immediately if the family renews, replies "STOP", or states they will not be renewing (Sam will ask for a reason once before stopping).
Impact on the Existing Process:
• The Checkout Process: The actual renewal process remains the same. Members will still click their link, log into my.scouting.org, and renew.
• Unit Leaders: There is nothing new for unit leaders to set up or manage. However, if a unit leader wants to step in, they can use "Movo" to take over a conversation, which will stop Sam from texting that family.
