New Hampshire Animal Rights League

New Hampshire Animal Rights League The mission of NHARL is to work for the fair treatment of all animals in New Hampshire and beyond. We support like-minded organizations. Stay in touch.

We investigate issues brought to our attention, promote a vegan cruelty-free lifestyle, grant funds to help pay for nonlethal beaver management, and distribute free No Hunting signs to landowners. WHAT YOU CAN DO:

Strive to live a compassionate cruelty-free lifestyle. For example: go vegan, coexist with wildlife, avoid places like zoos and circuses where animals are enslaved, and don’t wear fur,

leather, wool, silk, or any products made from animals. Write letters to the editor and comment whenever you learn of an injustice to animals. Support animal-friendly legislation. Join us at protests and other events. Volunteer your time and skills. We are always in need of new voices to speak for animals with our protests, tabling, leafleting, etc. Visit our page and website. Ask to be put on our email list to learn about actions and events. Become a member of NHARL.

Did you know that mosquito spraying kills more than mosquitos?

Spot a mosquito spraying sign in a yard? Text the address to 781-281-8174 — save it now! NHARL will mail them a polite, anonymous postcard about the dangers of mosquito spraying and safer alternatives. Your name will not be mentioned.

Even “organic” or “natural” mosquito treatments can be toxic to bees, fireflies, dragonflies, butterflies, and many other insects.

The active ingredient in “organic” mosquito treatments is often pyrethins, which come from Chrysanthemum flowers. That sounds harmless, but in high concentrations pyrethin is toxic and will kills insects on contact.

Nature-friendly alternatives to spraying:

- Remove standing water in your yard.
- Turn on a fan.
- Apply insect repellent or cover exposed skin.
- Create mosquito-free spaces with mosquito curtains or an umbrella mosquito net.
- Landscape to invite mosquito predators, such as bats, frogs, and dragonflies.
- Make a DIY mosquito bucket trap (Google for video)

Thank you to those who came out today at The Puppy Palace in Manchester. Regrettably, May 2026 marks the third anniversary of the opening.

If you’ve been following us, you know how hard we’ve all worked to shut down this operation. Looking back, our efforts have included:
- Protesting regularly, weekly, and then monthly, since the store opened
- Connecting with multiple former employees who witnessed sick and dying dogs
- Advocating for legislation to ban the retail sale of dogs
- Demonstrating outside the store owner’s home in Massachusetts
- Arranging a scathing exposé in The Boston Globe, later reprinted in the UK’s Daily Mail

Please join us for the next protest on June 6th at noon. The more people who join us, the more attention we bring to the cruelty of selling puppies from puppy mills.

"It's very heartbreaking, because... you can see them up there trying to get in." —Susan Shepcaro, Save Our Swallows.

Join the rally to help the Rye barn swallows, organized by Save Our Swallows - Sat., May 2 at 12:00 pm, Goss Barn, 251 Harbor Rd, Rye, NH.

A colony of barn swallows has returned to its summer home in NH, but the barn where they have nested for decades has been shut tight to keep them out.

Why? Because the Rye Conservation Commission has decided to exclude them from this town-owned barn on conservation land.

Barn Swallows have declined by 80% in New Hampshire since the 1950s. They are faithful to nesting sites and are now trying to get into the barn to nest.
