New national homelessness data offers an important reminder: homelessness is a challenge we can solve when communities invest in proven solutions.
HUD's 2025 Annual Homeless Assessment Report to Congress found that homelessness declined nationally for the first time in years, with many communities reporting fewer people experiencing homelessness and fewer people living unsheltered. Early data suggests that investments in housing, supportive services, and coordinated community responses are making a difference.
At CCEH, we see that impact every day.
Through our Resource Center, Emergency Winter Shelter, and Permanent Supportive Housing programs, we help people move from crisis to stability. In 2025 alone, 37 individuals moved into permanent housing through our Resource Center, while our Permanent Supportive Housing program maintained a 90% housing retention rate - proof that when people have housing and support, they succeed.
Behind every statistic is a neighbor, a family member, a veteran, a coworker, or a friend whose life is changed through access to safe housing and compassionate support.
The progress reflected in this report did not happen by accident. It happened because communities, service providers, volunteers, donors, and public partners worked together, and because federal funding helped make those efforts possible. National experts warn that reductions to housing and homelessness programs could jeopardize these gains and put more people at risk of returning to homelessness.
As Congress and the Administration consider FY27 funding priorities, now is the time to continue investing in solutions that work.
