Get your bowls and soups ready to make a difference in the community! On Sunday, October 19th, from 11-2, The New Hampshire Potters Guild will be hosting an Empty Bowls fundraiser at Kimball Jenkins Estate in Concord, NH! Bowls (and cups) made by our talented members and beyond will be for sale to help support The Friendly Kitchen, a local non profit who has been feeding those in need for over 40 years in the Concord and surrounding areas!

Here are some ways to help with this event:

1. Share! Share! Share! The more everyone shares the event on not only socials, but with friends and family, the more attendance we will have!

2. Donate bowls, cups, or bigger piece(s) to donate to the raffle. You can bring them day of, or you can email Hannah at [email protected] to schedule a drop off date.

3. Come volunteer! The event goes from 11-2, so we are in need of people to help with set up and break down. We need people to scoop soup, sell raffle tickets, sell bowls, and other little tasks!

Thank you to all who take time to share, volunteer, donate, or attend this event! We look forward to supporting The Friendly Kitchen, as well as enjoying delicious soup and lovely pottery in the process!

‼️ Specific to NHPG members: We have a meeting immediately after this event at Kimball Jenkins from 2-4. Instead of a regular potluck, we were thinking a dessert potluck instead! If we have soup left over, that will be available, too.

What a weekend! The second chamber form was put together and put in place. A fabulous crew sorted and cleaned used bricks that were used to build up the chimney and first and second chambers. Topping it all off, we were serenaded with violin and fiddle music at lunch on Sunday. Kurt began putting together the door of the first chamber.

No pots in it this time. This firing is to dry everything and harden off some of the ingredients we used in the build. Soon we will load and fire for real with wood and 6 brave potter souls! NEW WORK DATES… mark your calendars!

Hello all!

Thanks for coming to the last kiln committee meeting at Claire’s. I’m writing to let you know of a change in the kiln building dates. At the somewhat rushed meeting, we looked at a series of 5 day weekends in May. However, after the meeting and some time to fully consider all the various factors including leaders’ availability, school calendar (esp. summer recess), day jobs, last firing of old kiln, weather, average temperatures, road conditions, and taking into account builders' work, family, holiday and gardening schedules, it seemed some changes were in order.

After looking at at dates ranging from April through June, we settled on June:

Kiln build dates
May 31-June 2 (3 days)
June 7-9 (3 days)
June 14-16 (3 days)
June 21-243(3 days)

June 28-30 rain date/extra 3 days

I hope this change does not inconvenience you.

This leaves the whole month of May for the last (or last 2) firings of the old kiln. Please contact me if you’d like to lead a firing.

Happy solstice to all,
Lydia
