Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me.

Marriott International began offering domestic partner benefits, including health insurance, to same-sex couples in the late 1990s. This initiative was part of Marriott’s broader commitment to diversity and inclusion, aiming to attract and retain top talent by meeting the evolving needs of its workforce. By 2000, Marriott was recognized among Maryland companies providing such benefits, as highlighted in a Human Rights Campaign report . 

Over the years, Marriott has consistently demonstrated support for the LGBTQ+ community. In 2013, the company earned a perfect 100% score on the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index, reflecting its inclusive policies, benefits for same-sex spouses and domestic partners, and active engagement in LGBTQ+ advocacy . Marriott also publicly opposed discriminatory legislation, such as California’s Proposition 8, and joined coalitions supporting marriage equality .
