Happy New Year! Looking to spend a Saturday or two outside by the river?

We’re welcoming in 2026 with an exciting new project: Riparian Restoration and Native Plant Demonstration Garden at the Castroville Regional Park. This project is part of the implementation of the Medina River Watershed Protection Plan, developed by the community!

Calling all hands on deck to help beautify the park, reduce erosion, limit bacteria loading into the river and enjoy a meal together.

Sign up for one or both events using the sign up link or by scanning the QR code. Details about each event can be found on the sign up link.

Hello Naturalists!

As part of our Texas Nature Tracker updates and re-vamping, we are retiring 5 of our Texas Nature Tracker projects, and passing on the management of one of our TNT projects on iNaturalist. This means that these projects will no longer be pre-approved for TMN volunteer hours.

It will still remain a project on iNaturalist and you can still submit observations, but it will no longer be actively curated by Texas Nature Trackers.

Projects that are retiring:
Terrestrial Mollusks of Texas
Bees and Wasps of Texas
Texas Freshwater Mussels
Red Crowned Parrot Project
Texas Milkweeds for Monarchs

Projects that are changing management:
Fishes of Texas.

If a conservation need arises, we may re-ignite this project from retirement and restart curating observations.

We will be updating our website, where you will be able to find more ways to get involved with Texas Nature Trackers: https://tpwd.texas.gov/huntwild/wild/wildlife_diversity/texas_nature_trackers/.

If you have questions or concerns or contact information for an expert who may want to collaborate on this project, contact us at [email protected]

✨ Special Guest Speaker: Dell Little
“Merlin & eBird: Become a Power User!”
If you’ve been wanting to get more out of these amazing birding apps, you won’t want to miss Dell’s tips, tricks, and power-user secrets. It’s the perfect way to prepare for our local upcoming Christmas Bird Counts and get inspired for next year’s birding adventures!

👋 We’d love to see you there — come help us close out the year with community, learning, and a whole lot of excitement!

October Big Day is one of the biggest global birding events of the year, organized by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Birders from every corner of the world head outside for 24 hours to see how many species can be found and documented in eBird and Merlin Bird ID in a single day.

Join the global birding community and save your bird sightings in eBird and Merlin on 11 October, 2025.
Anyone can participate. Just go birding! Submit at least one eBird checklist or save your identifications in Merlin to contribute. Visit a new birding location, join on a local birding walk, even 15 minutes of birding in your neighborhood can help.

Collecting data on bird populations in a single day creates a snapshot of global bird populations, helping scientists understand migration patterns, abundance, and conservation needs.

Visit the link below to learn more about how you can participate.
