High Rockies Community School students recently visited Como for a hands-on experience exploring Colorado’s railroad history! From touring historic equipment to learning how preservation work happens, it was a fun and memorable day, sparking the next generation of railroad enthusiasts thanks to SPRS volunteers! 🚂

🚂 Mid-Winter Round-Up!

Our volunteers have been hard at work this winter at the Como Roundhouse, completing workdays and hosting the crew from the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad for a productive February visit.

Thanks to our dedicated engine team and supporting volunteers, great progress is being made on Klondike Kate #4 and other roundhouse projects. All fueled by teamwork and plenty of lunches around the fire. We’re building great momentum as we look ahead to summer!

Our Engine Crew volunteers have been braving the cold in Como while making steady progress on Klondike Kate # 4. ❄️🚂 Even in winter conditions, the team continues important work behind the scenes to keep things moving forward.

🚂 Engine Crew Update! ❄️

Our Engine Crew has been hard at work finishing the year strong! On November 15th, the team tackled a variety of maintenance and preparation tasks to keep everything running smoothly, all while enjoying the cozy ambiance of the wood stoves.

Then on November 29th, despite snowy winter conditions, the crew kept up the momentum, working on repairs, upgrades, and improvements throughout the shop and on Klondike Kate.

Huge thanks to all our volunteers for their dedication, we can’t wait to see what this winter brings for the Engine Crew!

Our amazing volunteers have been hard at work in Como keeping the restoration momentum strong! 💪

Over the past few weeks, the crew has:
🔧 Installed and aligned the locomotive’s dry-pipe assembly and started fabricating the front tube sheet.

🔥 Hauled and chopped firewood to keep the roundhouse stoves going.

🛠️ Re-threaded dome-cover bolt holes, cut and welded a new spring-support pin, and made electrical upgrades around the shop.

🎁 Received generous tool and equipment donations to help future restoration work.

Each workday brings us one step closer to seeing this historic locomotive come back to life. A huge thank-you to all the dedicated volunteers and supporters who make it happen! 🙌

That’s a wrap on the 2025 season! 🚂

We closed out the year with two beautiful open houses on September 20th & 27th 🍂 set against a backdrop of stunning fall colors & the steady rhythm of the Plymouth locomotive running!

To everyone who visited, supported, and cheered us on this season - thank you! And to our incredible volunteers, your hard work and passion are the heart of everything we do at the Como Roundhouse!
