What an incredible weekend!

Thank you to everyone who helped make our Second Annual Back-to-School Event such a success. Because of the generosity of our local businesses, churches, organizations, and community members, we were able to provide free school supplies to students across Teays Valley as they get ready for the new school year.

Thank you, as well, to all of the departments and organizations that participated in our Touch-a-Truck event. It was great to see so many families exploring fire trucks, police cruisers, ambulances, ODNR vehicles, farm equipment, and more, while learning about the people who serve our community every day.

We're also grateful to our local healthcare partners for providing school physicals and health information, and to the Village of Commercial Point for providing food for everyone who attended.

Any remaining school supplies, along with additional classroom items, will be donated to our local schools to help teachers and students throughout the year.

To everyone who donated, volunteered, or came out to support the event, thank you. We appreciate each and every one of you, and we hope to see you again next year!

Every day, firefighters, paramedics, and law enforcement officers answer the call with one mission: protecting and serving our communities.
This week, Ohio took an important step forward by signing House Bill 20 into law, strengthening protections for emergency responders who are carrying out their lawful duties.

This legislation increases penalties for individuals who intentionally obstruct or harass first responders while they are working. When emergency crews are delayed or distracted, it's not just the responders who are put at risk, it can also impact the people who desperately need our help.

Laws like this don't happen by chance. They are the result of persistent advocacy by firefighters, labor organizations, and public safety partners who work to ensure that those who protect our communities can do so as safely as possible. We extend our appreciation to the OAPFF and the many local unions and advocates who worked tirelessly to champion this legislation on behalf of Ohio's firefighters and paramedics.

Moments like this also highlight an important truth about firefighter unions. Advocacy is about far more than wages and benefits. Every day, your union works to improve firefighter safety, strengthen emergency services, promote sound public policy, and ensure first responders have the tools, training, staffing, and legal protections necessary to serve their communities safely and effectively. Protecting firefighters ultimately means protecting the people who depend on us.

While no law can eliminate every hazard we face, House Bill 20 is an important step toward creating safer emergency scenes and reinforcing the respect that all first responders deserve while serving the public.

When you see emergency personnel at work, you can help by:
🚒 Slow down and stay alert.
🚒Give responders the space they need to work safely.
🚒 Follow instructions from emergency personnel.
🚒 Remember that every action on scene is focused on protecting lives.

Thank you to everyone who supports your local firefighters, paramedics, law enforcement officers, dispatchers, and all first responders. Your support, and the advocacy of organizations dedicated to protecting emergency responders, helps make Ohio a safer place for everyone.

Protecting first responders means protecting the communities we serve.

***Update***** For today's cool down event, please enter from Grove Run road in the West Scioto Green subdivision. The elementary/community club drive has work underway on the elementary school side lot. 

This event is still being held at the middle school. The map does have the elementary wording over the cooldown area.

It’s hot, extremely hot. So hot that we need to do a cool down! On Friday, we want to do a splash zone for the kids! Scioto Township Fire Department will be spraying water from our fire truck and making the largest splash zone we’ve ever done. We will be spraying COLD water from 12:00 pm until 12:30 pm. Come out and get soaked down. The event will take place in the front parking lot of Teays Valley West Middle School. The pavement will be hot at first so please bring some flip flops. Hope to see you there! (If are engine happens to be on an emergency run, we will push the time back slightly until they return.)
