PreFlight is a summer camp for girls that uses aviation to transform their beliefs about gender roles, increase their self-esteem, and inspire them to become pilots! Just like a pilot must perform a “preflight” before they can takeoff in their airplane, our camp is a girl’s “preflight” into aviation. Activities conducted at PreFlight range from hands-on aviation experiments and team-building exerc

ises, to piloting a simulator and flying an airplane with one of our female instructors! Our STEM based approach for teaching young girls aviation is a one-of-a-kind transformative experience, which only PreFlight can offer. Seeing is believing and by placing young girls in an enriching environment, surrounded by female aviators and role models, they begin to believe that becoming a pilot is a real possibility for their lives. Rich in life because we have amazing volunteers like Maddi! 💕✨
Maddi is one of our newest volunteers for PreFlight but is already making such an impact! She took her mentee for a discovery flight and they had a blast. We are so impressed by Maddi’s dedication to the next generation of women in aviation and love to see how it shines through to her mentee! They both have such bright futures!

A goal in 2025 was to be build a better mentorship program. And with some great input from our mentors we are on our way. This year, more than ever, our mentors are coming together to build community and educate not only their mentees/parents but each other.

Texas based mentors Cheryl and Steven partnered together for an incredible day trip to KBAZ (New Braunfels Airport). They toured the tower, FBO, saw a T-6, Cheryl’s work plane and walked through a corporate jet as well as the maintenance facility. What a day! We are so lucky to have volunteers who put so much into their mentorships!

PreFlight fed the TRACON in PHX 2 days in a row! 🙌🏽
We have yet to encounter a person in ATC who wouldn’t go above and beyond for our girls and while we know it’s a drop in the bucket with everything going on we hope that not worry about lunch for a couple days added a bit of brightness to their day!

What ways are you showing up for the communities affected by the shutdown? We would love ideas!
