INSPiRE Love: Today we honor and Celebrate our countryβs newest Federal Holiday, Juneteenth. This day holds a historical and cultural significance in our country. President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863, which ended slavery yet it took two and a half years for this news to arrive to the state of Texas on June 19, 1865. This holiday is a celebration of freedom, and a call to action to continue the ongoing struggle for fight of equality, and the fight for social justice. Although the chains of slavery were broken, the roots of those chains still manifest themselves through racism and oppression and they still run deep across our country. There is much more freedom to be won! βπΌπ
