We welcomed Congressman Gabe Evans to Food Bank of the Rockies during the August Recess to tour the facility and discuss the ongoing levels of need we have seen, our priorities, and our extensive partnerships with farmers and agriculture! We always aim to identify opportunities that allow us to support Colorado farmers and producers while getting fresh food to our neighbors. Our network purchased more than $2.5 million in Colorado agricultural products last year alone.

We are grateful to the Congressman for cosponsoring the Local Farmers Feeding Our Communities Act to allow food banks to directly purchase fresh foods from farmers and the Hot Rotisserie Chicken Act to allow SNAP recipients to purchase hot rotisserie chickens. We hope to see these bipartisan bills passed and look forward to continued work with Congressman Evans to strengthen local agriculture while addressing food insecurity in CO-8!

Our team had an amazing time at the State Legislative Barbecue hosted by the Pueblo Chamber of Commerce last Friday alongside members of our federal delegation, state legislators, candidates, and community leaders celebrating Colorado agriculture and our shared commitment to a bright future!

Recently, I joined Colorado’s Centennial Farms & Ranches to celebrate 150 years of Colorado agriculture and the families who have carried that legacy forward.

We’re building on that legacy—from Colorado fields to Colorado families.

The 150 Colorado Agricultural Legacy Fund will strengthen local food access, support Colorado producers, and help get fresh, healthy Colorado-grown food to families across our state.

That’s a Colorado legacy worth celebrating.

Congresswoman Brittany Pettersen visited Food Bank of the Rockies for a conversation about how the new facility allows us to better serve our neighbors, the impacts of HR1 and what we’ve been seeing on the ground, and opportunities to improve hunger outcomes!

The food insecurity rate in Colorado’s 7th Congressional District was estimated at 11.4% as of 2024, or about 89,270 Coloradans. We also made sure to thank the Congresswoman for cosponsoring the Local Farmers Feeding Our Communities Act providing food banks funds to directly purchase fresh foods from farmers and the Modern WIC Act to allow for the virtual certification of WIC benefits.

You can make a big impact on statewide food security today! By donating to the 150 Colorado Agricultural Legacy Fund, you are investing in our shared future. Funds raised will be used to purchase Colorado made, raised, or grown products to feed families through Feeding Colorado’s network of food banks and pantries.

More than one-third of Colorado is in severe drought. Giving a gift to the Agricultural Legacy Fund ensures producers have the capital to plan for next year's crops and livestock and supply our network of food banks with local, nutritious food.

Staff from Senator Michael Bennet and Senator John Hickenlooper’s offices recently visited Food Bank of the Rockies. Spanning 270,000 square feet, their facility consolidates operations to serve 32 counties across Colorado more than doubling refrigerated and freezer storage for fresh produce, dairy, and proteins. We spoke about ongoing increases in need on the ground, Farm Bill priorities, and opportunities to improve food security!

From Colorado Fields to Colorado Families
Colorado agriculture has fed our state for 150 years and we’re celebrating that legacy by helping ensure Colorado-grown food reaches families who need it most.
From August 1 through September 7, Feeding Colorado, Colorado Proud, and the Colorado Department of Agriculture are teaming up to launch the 150 Colorado Agricultural Legacy Fund.
Your donation helps purchase Colorado-made, raised, and grown products from local producers and get fresh, nutritious food onto the tables of Colorado families. Every dollar helps strengthen our local food system while supporting the farmers and ranchers who make it possible.
Let’s set Colorado’s table together.

Last week, Feeding Colorado welcomed Senator John Hickenlooper for a tour of the Food Bank for Larimer County to talk about their operations and host a roundtable highlighting the impact of cuts to SNAP and Medicaid. More than 2,000 Coloradans have lost SNAP benefits in Larimer County since June of last year, accounting for around $500,000 a month that is no longer being spent at grocery stores and farmers markets. SNAP is the nation’s most effective tool against hunger, and when neighbors fall off the program, they turn to our network of food banks for help.

We are grateful to the Senator for uplifting the importance of federal nutrition programs including SNAP and TEFAP in our communities across the state. We hope to see the return of a broad bipartisan Farm Bill that supports farmers and producers while also protecting and strengthening nutrition programs.
