Field of Dreams, Inc Non-profit 501c3 Scott told Tom that this man had basically given up on life. He had gained renewed hope for his future and had even enrolled in college.

How We Started

In August of 2004, Tom Dermody was contacted by Scott Jones, a California Deer Association (CDA) member from Fresno, about a young man that was paralyzed from mid-chest down from a motorcycle accident. Scott had tried to convince him even with his disability he could still go out and enjoy the outdoors. Tom was greatly touched by the story and contacted a local landowner to tell hi

m this young man's story. It didn't take long for the landowner to graciously offer his ranch to sponsor a black tail deer hunt. Later that same month the men got together for the hunt and the young man was able to harvest a really nice 3 point buck. Tom and Scott could see the sheer joy and gratitude on the man's face as he examined his buck. Not too long after the hunt Scott called Tom to tell him that the young man's life had drastically changed since the hunt. After a few years the young man graduated with a 4 year degree in Ministry and became the pastor of a church. The man told Scott that the deer hunt had changed his life entirely. In 2006 Tom had the honor of meeting a young man by the name of Derek Jellison. Tom was deeply touched by Derek as he was by far one of the most inspirational children that he had ever met. Every day of his life Derek faces more challenges than most people could even imagine. He always maintains a positive attitude and is extremely giving and generous. Derek has deeply touched the hearts of everyone that he has ever met. The young gentlemen that Tom took black tail deer hunting and Derek are the inspiration that drives the Field Of Dreams (FOD) events, year after year. Through the years Tom, along with other volunteers, has been blessed to meet many young children and their families. Each year FOD events continue to grow and as of 2010 the group has provided outdoor adventures for close to 100 children and their families. But, there are so many more, deserving children that we need to get out in the field. In 2009, FOD began hosting a few hunts that recognize young men from our military. Hunts were hosted to recognize servicemen from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars as well as a New York City Fireman that was at the towers on September 11th. In 2010, FOD started an event that is called the John Montelli Memorial Veteran's Hunt. This hunt recognizes veterans from World War II up to our current wars. FOD has worked closely with local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and American Legion chapters. There are so many veterans in the North State that deserve an opportunity of a hunt of a lifetime and our goal is to provide that opportunity. By 2010 FOD had provided outdoor opportunities for sixteen servicemen. FOD has also been blessed to become involved with an organization called “Guide On.” Guide On was formed by a gentleman by the name of James Clark. This organization provides multiple opportunities to the children of our fallen veterans. By 2010 FOD had provided outdoor opportunities for 10 Guide On families

On Friday morning, Randy had Rob a local Army veteran out for a morning duck hunt. With warm weather and very little wind, the hunting was tough. The guys were able to scratch out a few birds and we look forward to getting Rob out again when the weather is better. Rob thank you for your service and thanks again to Randy for guiding the hunt.🦆

Today, we pause to honor the men and women who have served our nation with courage, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication.

We believe healing doesn’t only happen in hospitals or through words - it happens under open skies, beside rivers, on mountain trails, and around campfires shared with others who understand. The outdoors offers peace, purpose, and connection - the same values our veterans lived by in service.

To every veteran who has walked these trails with us, who has found stillness in the sound of the wind, and who continues to fight for peace within - we see you. We thank you. And we stand beside you. 🇺🇸

“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
— Isaiah 40:31

Thank You, Colorado! We just finished up with our Colorado elk and management deer hunt with Golden Eagle Outfitters. Johnathon, an Army veteran, traveled from Modesto, CA to hunt and was able to connect a great three point. Brokk, another Army veteran, drove up from Temple, TX to try his luck on a bull elk and you can see from the picture he was successful! William is our third hunter and also an Army veteran. He drove up from Madison, AL to try to fill his mule deer tag and he got it done with a great four by two. We want to thank Donny and his crew for all the hard work and dedication that they put into this hunt and making sure our guests were well takin care of. We sent three veterans out to Kansas to hunt whitetail with Big Dog Outfitters. Darren, a Marine Corps veteran, came out from Chico, CA to get a opportunity at a whitetail and boy did he get a good one! Ian, another Marine Corps veteran, who traveled from Wi******er, CA put down his biggest buck to date. Our third guest Frank, an Army veteran, came out from Gainesville, GA to hunt and he did not connect with the buck that he was looking for. Bill was so gracious and very supportive of our military offered for Frank to come back and give it another try. There is not to many outfitters that would make that offer and we want to thank Bill and his staff for all the hard work and dedication that they put into this hunt hunt. We also want to thank all three of our veterans for their service and we look forward to seeing them again soon. 🦌🇺🇸

On Monday, the opener of dove season, we had some of our local veterans out for a dove shoot. Everyone had a lot of shots with most everyone ending up with limits. We enjoy having these guys out with their children and watching the enjoyment they have. Thanks again to another landowner for this great opportunity and Randy for putting this hunt together. 🇺🇸

Last week, we sent two deserving veterans down to New Mexico for a guided antelope hunt with Kokopelli Outfitters. We haven’t hunted with Dylan in a few years and it was great to be hunting with him again. John, a 28 year Army veteran, traveled all the way from Auburn, Washington to have an opportunity at antelope. Thomas served 29 years in the Army and drove down from Colorado Springs to hunt as well. Dylan and his crew put both guys on two really nice antelope bucks. Both of our guests punched their tags and have some great meat to take home. We want to thank both of our guests for their service and a thank you goes out to Dylan and his staff. Please check out their website and book a hunt you won’t be disappointed!

On August 22nd, the LA Clay’s Team hosted 29 shooters for their 1st annual Field of Dreams Charity Shoot. Betsy James from California Gun Girls was one of the main hosts and everyone had a blast. They started the morning with the national anthem after registration and got the teams out onto the fields at LA Clays where the 2028 Olympics will be held at. After the shoot, everyone enjoyed a catered BBQ Tri-Tip lunch and raffled off some incredible prizes. They were even visited by 6 time Olympic Medalist, Kim Rhode! 🎯

Last Wednesday board member, Mat Garcia, took another one of our local Marine Corps veterans out for a morning pig hunt. Lucas brought his son, Hunter, out for a little quality time in the hills. After looking around a bit, Mat spotted a good boar in with the cows. They had to wait for the boar to clear the cows and once he did, Lucas was able to get a clean shot and put him down. We want to thank Lucas for his service and Hunter and Mat for guiding the hunt. 🐗
