Victim Advocates are at risk to develop secondary trauma stress due to their exposure to trauma. Providing care to victims of Human Trafficking, sexual assault, domestic assault, and gender based violence does not come without an occupational hazard.

SOLID is committed to raising awareness for these risk factors and provide informational programs that will directly support these frontline workers to promote emotional/ spiritual wellbeing that will contribute to retention and resiliency.

This is the bench that I sat at in tears trying to catch my breath before heading back into the hospital to be at my dad’s side while he was dying.

I just returned for the first time in 5 years to this exact spot. I remember it was there I wish anyone would just sit next to me while I fell apart. I was holding everything together to appear strong and calm for my dad and my family. But internally I was not ok. I chose to step away for some fresh air.

It was through this experience of being surrounded by people yet feeling so alone, I knew I didn’t want others to experience that loneliness in a sea of people.

This has drawn me to Chaplaincy and the ministry of presence. We are able to minister to those around us just by being present.

Understanding how trauma plays a role in our spiritual care goes even further in implementing the ministry of presence and caring for one’s spirit during a time of distress.

Understanding the intricate relationship between trauma and spirituality is crucial for providing safety that can lead to effective healing.

Spiritual assessments are implemented to assess one’s spiritual orienting system. And when it comes to trauma, these assessments can help identify one’s orienting system is helping to support or hinder their ability to cope as they are experiencing a traumatic event.

By recognizing how trauma impacts one’s spiritual orienting system, caregivers can provide more compassionate support to those in need.

2026 is going to be a transformative year that will bring awareness and strengthen trauma informed spiritual care approaches.

Our mission is to educate and support those on the front line as they give tirelessly because they are committed to the call.

No one wants to be in these dark spaces or living out their nightmare. But we want to be in it with them and to be a source of light as we create a trauma informed spiritually safe space in that darkness.

We do this by strengthening trauma-informed spiritual care through:
• Evidence-informed training
• Advocacy and education
• Pastoral and spiritual support for frontline workers

Our goal is to ensure care is ethical, compassionate, and survivor-centered, while also sustaining those who serve.

Trauma does not only impact the body and mind—it also profoundly impacts spirituality, meaning, trust, and identity.

Victim-survivors of human trafficking, sexual assault, and domestic violence often carry spiritual distress that goes unseen. At the same time, the frontline workers and caregivers serving them experience secondary trauma, moral distress, and compassion fatigue.
Without trauma-informed spiritual care, both survivors and caregivers are at risk of being underserved.

This is where S.O.L.I.D. Alliance comes in.
