Columbus Space Program

Columbus Space Program Columbus Space program is the initiative that covers FIRST team 4188, DREAMS high altitude balloon science, and the NASA CubeSat program in Columbus, GA

The Columbus Space program is made up of three separate but related initiatives: robotics, high-altitude balloon science, and cubeSAT design and implementation. Our program encompasses the FIRST Team 4188, which competes in Georgia in robotics competitions. Formerly referred to as Columbus Corps robotics, the team is currently undergoing a rename. The students participating attend local high schoo

ls. FIRST Robotics Competition has been a way for our team members to excel in engineering, CAD, business, and leadership. The assistance it has provided for the college acceptance of our alumni is significant and undeniable. Over the past few years, six of our own team members have been accepted into MIT, and many of the others attend schools including Dartmouth, Georgia Tech, Johns Hopkins, Auburn, and Mercer. The majority of our alumni have chosen to major in STEM fields such as Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or Computer Science. FIRST Team 4188 has also launched several careers, including internship with Google and SpaceX. The DREAMS program is unique to the Columbus area. DREAMS (Doing Research at Extreme Altitudes for Motivated Students) is based on a high altitude balloon science platform, and was developed by members of the Columbus Space Program. We are currently in planning for DREAMS 23, in support of our third initiative - the CubeSat program. We are applying for NASA's CubeSat Initiative, under this program. This program is a NASA Cubesat Launch Initiative Proposal from the Columbus Space Program & AMSAT. Primary focus area: Advance technology readiness level for a new type of magnetometer core and to advance an education plan using national K-12 networks. Our proposal was submitted with OGRE (Opelika High School) in Fall 2020, and has been selected as a FINALIST for continuing on.

Last year's FRC theme was "Rebuild."

CSP embodied this theme by reaching out and connecting with elders in our community.

That spark. Lit. A. Fire.

Stay tuned.

On Wednesdays we wear pink...Or, in our case, we wear FTC green! 🐝 We wrapped up FTC Camp with robo-matches, time outside, awards, and doing a CADathon to prep for next year's season.

We love our FTC Columbus League and were super-excited to have 9 teams representing Shaw and Columbus High Schools as well as middle schoolers from Baker, Fort, Richard's, and Veterans.

One community united in STEM ❤️

When you are the only FRC team in a 90-mile radius, you feel a responsibility to support every kid, family. teacher, mentor, and team in engaging in a STEM education.

But, responsibility doesn't automatically equate to your heart.

OUR heart is on fire. 🔥

Local FTC teams asked us to host a summer camp. We answered their call and added 2 FLL camps. 💙💚

Pics are from our planning meeting. Stay tuned for camp pics!

Tonight we celebrated our team's legacy and future! We honored our CSP seniors who are graduating, including 3 students who were on our team for all 4 years AND were team members and mentors of our FTC teams 💚💙 We celebrated our robot accomplishments and Impact-winning outreach. We celebrated our two FTC teams - who will carry on CSP's legacy. We gave much appreciation to our mentors, coaches, families, and Booster Club - who keep all of our teams well funded and well fed!

It takes a community to make a team and we have the best community imaginable 💕

As a graduating student on CSP said today, "Our team doesn't build robots. We build up people and build up our community."💕

If this is our team's legacy, we have some pretty amazing young people going out into the world. 💙💚

We love that our community loves us back! Thank you to Principal Allen at Columbus High School for sponsoring this morning's Championship Breakfast and for the Muscogee County CTAE Director, Dr. Thomas, for recognizing our accomplishments at tonight's Muscogee County School District Board Meeting!

May the 4th be with you! Happy Star Wars Day from your favorite space-themed team 🚀 😊
