❤️ R.I.P. Mary
1926 - 2026

Mary lived an extraordinary life.

At just 16, she became the first female Western Union telegram messenger by bicycle in Fort Worth, Texas. She spent decades serving her community, including more than 30 years with the Clintonville Women's Club and many years as an usher at the Ohio Theatre. Even more amazingly, Mary worked for AAA Ohio Auto Club until her retirement in 2006 at age 80.

Mary was the proud mother of 4 children, grandmother of 12, great-grandmother to more than 45, and great-great-grandmother to more than 10. Like so many families facing dementia, her loved ones worked tirelessly to help cover the rising cost of care. But the financial burden became overwhelming.

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, My Mom's Mind was able to step in and help Mary remain at Sage Park, the memory care community she called home.

This is why we exist. Every family deserves support, dignity, and hope while navigating the challenges of dementia.

💜 Mary was the beneficiary of My Mom's Mind's very first Care Grant, and we are honored to be part of her story.

💜 World FTD Awareness Week may be over, but for FTD families, the journey continues every day.

My Mom's Mind was inspired by my mom, Barb Martin, who lived with FTD and Primary Progressive Aphasia (PPA) and passed away in July 2025.

One of the most difficult realities for families is knowing that some forms of FTD can be inherited. But there is hope. Ongoing research and clinical trials are bringing us closer to better treatments and, one day, a cure.

In memory of my mom and all those affected by FTD, we'll keep sharing, educating, and advocating. 💜

This week is World FTD Awareness Week.

Frontotemporal degeneration (FTD) is the most common form of dementia in people under the age of 60, affecting not only memory, but also language, behavior, and communication.

Although she was not diagnosed until her mid-70s, Barb Martin, the inspiration behind My Mom’s Mind, lived with FTD and Primary Progressive Aphasia (PPA), a condition that gradually impairs a person’s ability to communicate.

This week, we honor all those living with FTD, remember those we have lost, and recognize the unwavering dedication of families, friends, and caregivers who walk this journey alongside them.

Notable public figures affected by FTD include Bruce Willis, Wendy Williams, Glen Campbell, and John Berry, a founding member of the Beastie Boys, who passed away from the disease at just 52 years old.

💙 Together, we can raise awareness, increase understanding, and support research toward better treatments and, ultimately, a cure.
