Do you have something sitting around that your pets no longer use? We’d love to put it to good use! We are currently in need of gently used or like new pet items.

Items that are of the most interest to us:

🐱 Cat trees (less than 5 feet)

🐱 Scratching boxes/posts

🐱 Sheets and or/blankets

🐱 Pet beds

These items will be used to make our temporary holding space comfortable for the kitties who come into our care.

Well, my goal was to get the little black cat (the tabby girl has already been spayed), I had the perfect opportunity, she was the only one in the drop trap. I pulled the string, trapped her, turned around to grab my holding trap, and she was gone. Somehow, and I still can’t figure out how, she managed to escape. She’s very smart and it has been very challenging to trap her with a traditional trigger trap so this was my next option. Fortunately, I have one more day to try and trap her as my TNR appointments aren’t until Friday. I started the process of trapping her today assuming things might not go as planned and I am very glad I did 🫩

A small upgrade for our little cat rescue but one that was SO needed, a safe, dedicated, and temporary space for cats who need somewhere to land while we figure out next steps for them. We're a completely foster based rescue so we don't have a physical facility to bring cats to. That can make things tricky when we find a cat who needs help immediately but their foster home isn't ready yet. This gives us that missing space in between.

What we will be utilizing this space for:
Temporary short term holding for new intakes: A safe place for cats to stay while they wait for an available foster home or while we coordinate their next steps.

Socializing & assessing cats found outside: Some cats aren't ready to be 100% indoors yet. Sometimes they need a little extra socialization period. This space gives us the opportunity to bring in fearful or under socialized cats in a controlled environment to decompress while we get to know them and work on bringing them indoors.

Overall I am really excited about this upgrade and while small, it will give us the opportunity to allow more cats to live a better life. Which is all we want to do!

This surprise orange kitty girl was trapped in Canal Wi******er (thanks to the efforts of Jerry and his wife. THANK YOU ❤️) while the 4 month old kitten was the baby of a kitty we trapped and spayed earlier this year at the Carroll industrial site. This makes 45 cats TNR’d this year for our rescue.

This property sat abandoned for almost 4 years which made it an ideal place for us to feed one of our managed feral cat colonies. When I first discovered this colony, there were nearly 15 cats living in this area. Through TNR and finding homes for the friendly cats we have decreased the number of remaining cats to 6. Recently, the property sold, which means we can no longer use this spot for feeding 😩

The problem we’re running into now is the cats have a routine and they know the property. Naturally, they continue to hang around waiting for me. The new property owner understandably doesn’t want a group of cats congregating there so now I have to begin the process of transitioning the colony to a new feeding location 🫩

Because we’re in the city, where the houses and properties sit incredibly close together, finding a new spot isn’t easy. We have to find somewhere that is safe, discreet, accessible to the cats, and unlikely to create problems for neighboring homeowners. So this has now become my priority, making sure these cats are still taken care of and also keeping the new property owner content (important for the cat’s safety). Fortunately, I do have a short term solution but I will need to figure out something more long term. Our feeding philosophy: prioritize hydration, provide complete nutrition, variety, and make it sustainable for our small cat rescue. We rotate between affordable, complete & balanced staples and some higher end options to introduce different proteins, textures and ingredients. We also add freeze dried toppers, treats and omega 3s for extra variety and support and because we're feeding multiple cats every single day, we try to find the best way incorporate quality nutrition + hydration allowing us to stretch our resources.

Walker came to us completely unexpectedly.
One evening, I was out feeding our cat colonies when this little guy came strolling up the sidewalk. He was very hungry, covered in fleas, and had what appeared to be pink paint or some kind of colored dye on the upper part of his right leg. There was no way I was leaving him out there.

Once I got him home, I immediately treated the fleas with Capstar. A few days later Walker was seen by the vet, where he was neutered, vaccinated for rabies, tested for FeLV/FIV, and received additional flea treatment. It was suspected he was suffering from flea anemia, that’s how bad his fleas were 🥲 Thankfully, Walker tested negative for both FeLV and FIV! and is now completely Flea free!

We don’t know exactly what Walker’s life looked like before he found us or how he ended up walking down that sidewalk that evening but what we do know is he found the right people.
