Second chances don’t happen in isolation—they’re built through compassion, partnership, and a shared belief that people can rise beyond their past.

In 2024, Chattahoochee Valley Episcopal Ministries took a meaningful step toward breaking cycles of recidivism by partnering with the Georgia Department of Supervision to provide bus passes for returning citizens working to rebuild their lives. What may seem like a small gesture—access to transportation—opened doors to opportunity, stability, and hope.

Now, in 2026, that commitment has grown into something even more powerful. Together, they’ve launched a new initiative to ensure returning citizens can access job training through Goodwill, removing yet another barrier on the path to independence. Transportation is no longer an obstacle—it’s a bridge to possibility.

Today, we celebrate a milestone: the inaugural class of participants who have successfully completed Phase 1 of the Goodwill job training program. These individuals represent resilience in action. They’ve shown up, put in the work, and taken meaningful steps toward transforming their futures.

Their journey isn’t just about personal growth—it’s about strengthening families, uplifting neighborhoods, and building safer, more hopeful communities for us all.

Please join me in lifting these determined individuals up in prayer and in celebrating their achievement. Their progress is a reminder that when we invest in people, we invest in a better future for everyone!

Let's talk SNAP. And Troup County.
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (often called food stamps) is a federally funded program that provides individuals and families with money that can only be used for food. In our community, 52% of our households do not make enough money to cover basic living expenses. READ THAT SENTENCE AGAIN.

We're not talking poverty. We are talking families with working adults that don't make enough to cover housing, transportation, food, clothing, healthcare and other basic needs. Not all of these households receive food stamps, but many do.

For 13 years, Circles has helped families move toward financial stability. What we see most often is that on the road to stability SNAP and childcare assistance (for preschoolers) are the two most critical benefits that help families get to stability. By the way, all our Circles participants who can work, are either working or in school, while also attending Circles classes, mentoring and coaching programs, setting goals and doing the work to move ahead. (The picture is from one of our meetings.)

On Saturday, if the federal shutdown continues, no funds from SNAP will be available to access.
This means our families with children will struggle.
This means our disabled adults will go without.
This means our seniors will parcel out the food they have on hand.

How can you help?
• Donate to Feeding the Valley Food Bank - they provide most of the food that every ministry/food resource in Troup County uses (including Circles).
• Donate to one (or more) of the programs that are empowering people to get ahead. A few of our favorites: Harmony House Domestic Violence Shelter, Inc. United Way of West Georgia, Inc. and, of course, Circles.
• Commit to learning about the reality of poverty in our community. We're happy to speak to your group or lead a poverty simulation. Just send us a message.
• Be kind. Stop saying/posting comments that shame and degrade people who receive assistance.
