Prayers For Sam!!
A little change of plans…
After our surgeon, Dr. Grant, and oncologists Dr. Coulter and Dr. Allison reviewed the PET scan yesterday, they decided additional MRI imaging was not needed. They also canceled the needle biopsy that had been scheduled for Monday.
Instead, they performed an EGD today to make sure the tumors are not invading the stomach. Thankfully, they are not, and the bleeding has improved. Unfortunately, the nausea, vomiting, and dry heaving are still a major issue. Doctors believe this is likely due to Sam’s stomach being compressed by the tumors.
The current plan is to head home for a week, and then Dr. Grant will attempt to remove as much tumor as possible on Monday, March 16th. They will biopsy what is removed and then determine our next steps and treatment plan.
We all anticipate this may be a recurrence of the peripheral nerve sheath tumor, but we need confirmation before deciding what chemotherapy or further treatment will look like.
Last night, they let Ella sleep over with us, which was good for both of them. Even through the nausea, Sam was pretty talkative with her and, of course, amused us with interesting (and weird) facts. 😂
Please continue praying for symptom relief for Sam this week at home, and for wisdom, guidance, and skill for our incredible care team. They have become like family to us, and we know they adore Sammy and are doing everything they can for him.
