Columbus Enrichment Program
The Columbus Enrichment Program (CEP) is a free volunteer trained tutoring program that serves students in grades K-12 with the opportunities to improve their basic learning skills. Our focus is on providing innovative services that help children engage and inspire themselves. Volunteers share their expertise in math, language arts and specials by making a difference i
n our community’s children. The volunteers provide one-on-one tutoring in basic skills and large and small group culturally based activities to include character readers, guest speakers, field trips, games, crafts and prizes. The purpose is to develop positive attitudes toward achievement, improve self-competence, and plan activities related to their cultural heritage. This is one of the many ways to encourage and provide support for our children’s educational and social needs. The effort is an aggressive move to help minority children improve in their academic and societal skills. The children engage in cognitive skills, to include movement activities, aesthetic decision-making, abstract interpretation, perceptual organization and critical thinking, tools all necessary for academic success in school. Columbus Enrichment uses a student’s personal learning style to enhance the skills necessary to become proficient in the basics. Their tutors are able to adjust the activities to each child’s learning pace and make academics joyful and fun. This is what student’s, parents and tutors say about the program.
