Join this Saturday, July 26th for our first yard tour of the year!

This five acre property, purchased by the Kirsch family in 2020, came with 36 native tree species and a huge amount of invasive species. Over the past five years, the Kirsch's have been hard at work removing invasives and replanting with natives.

You'll see property transformation highlights including:

๐Ÿธ A hand-dug frog pond!
๐ŸŒณ 1 acre of mature woods where solid stands of honeysuckle and autumn olive have been removed and dozens of bareroot native trees and shrubs have been planted
๐ŸŒผ Traditional garden-inspired beds using all US natives and native cultivars
๐ŸŒพ Two prairie zones that include native shrubs, tall grasses, and native flowering plants
๐ŸŽ An orchard and a large garden surrounded by native plants

Visit https://columbus.wildones.org/calendar-of-events-and-programs/ for further details. Hope to see you there!

"It's like Christmas morning for native plant people!" That might have been the best compliment of the day. We did it! Another great Wild Ones Columbus Annual Native Plant Sale in the books. Record turnout and sales in support of the Wild Ones mission, and lots of great sharing of ideas and plant goals!

Thanks all for coming! Happy planting on this beautiful weekend. Special thank you to all the volunteers that help make this possible!

We'll give it a go again next year, tentatively May 23, 2026.

Enjoy some photos of the day courtesy of Marty Freado, our unofficial event photographer!

Ready for our big Wild Ones Columbus Annual Native Plant Sale? Here's your checklist to shop it like a pro.

+LOCATION/TIME: Saturday May 24th from 9am-1pm at the parking lot of Overbrook Church, 4131 N High St. Columbus, OH. Entrance off Croswell Rd.

+SETUP: There will be 4 areas at the sale where you can purchase plants: Wild Ones Columbus, Natives In Harmony, Scioto Gardens, and Leaves for Wildlife. Plants should be purchased separately from each.

+PAYMENT METHODS: Wild Ones plants can be purchased with Cash, Venmo, or Paypal. The 3 native plant nurseries all accept Credit card or Cash.

+PLANT TRANSPORT: If you're planning to buy more plants than fit in your hands (of course you are!), consider bringing a cardboard box, crate, wagon or something else to more easily transport. We'll likely have some trays and boxes on hand, but not usually enough.

+PARKING: The site has a parking lot available for customers. Please follow signs as the entrance and exit will be one way only. If the parking lot is full, there is ample street parking available in the surrounding area. We just ask that you be respectful of the neighborhood and ensure you are parking legally, and not blocking traffic or driveways.

+PLANT LIST: There will be a wide variety of native flowers, shrubs, and trees that support a diverse ecosystem. From staple pollinator flowers to unique finds, we'll have it all. Wild Ones plant list is provided here. Some additions to be added later, but this is most of it. Each of the native plant nurseries have plant lists on their websites, and they'll presumably be bringing some subset of that. TBD.

We're just over a week away from our big one day only Wild Ones Columbus Annual Native Plant Sale on May 24th! There will be thousands of native plants available in a variety of sizes and price points. With the growth of our plant sale and demand for natives, we're excited to be joined by Natives In Harmony, Scioto Gardens, and Leaves for Wildlife Native Plant Nursery. Between the 3 nurseries and the Wild Ones member plants, customers will have 4 areas at the sale to purchase plants. There will be plenty of staple pollinator plants along with many unique ones you don't often find.

Have questions about the right plant(s) for a particular location? We'll have plenty of knowledgeable volunteers on site ready to answer your questions!

If you've been collecting empty plant pots, Wild Ones is happy to take them at the sale and re-use for next year (anything from 2 inch plug containers up to 1 gallon pots). You're welcome to scavenge the pile too.

The sale proceeds of the Wild Ones plants help support the Wild Ones mission and our mini-grant program that funds pollinator garden projects in public places around central Ohio. Buy great plants and support a great cause!

Come for the plants, and stay for the festive atmosphere! We love the energy you all bring, your excitement to plant with purpose, and your festive plant/nature themed shirts and accessories we see every year!

Despite being remiss in promoting our Pollinator Garden Grant Program on social media this year, at least some of you found it on our website or found us. Excited to be providing funding to the following additional projects this spring in Central Ohio:

$1,000: FACT - Friends of Alum Creek and Tributaries: Establishment of a new tree nursery for restoration projects. Support will help FACT to restore native understory shrubs and trees to replace invasive honeysuckle in the Alum Creek watershed. It will help FACT encourage residents to replace non-native trees and shrubs in their yards with native species, and increase tree canopy. It will also increase food and habitat for native pollinators and help educate residents on the importance of native trees and shrubs to pollinators.

$500: Cherrington Elementary School in Westerville: Establishment of new wetland rain garden. Applicant and FSWD Master Rain Gardener, Trista Rappert-McGetrick, is leading the project. Noted benefits to include: provide ecological education opportunities for students, faculty, and community; provide a highly visible example of a well-designed, engaging native planting that may inspire homeowners or other schools; alleviate seasonal wetness that prevents use of outdoor soccer field and open play space.

$100: Lithopolis Garden Club: Continuation of prior year project on vacant lot in downtown area. Focus on helping to educate community as to the importance of pollinators, while also adding to the beautification of downtown Lithopolis.
