**Honoring a Remarkable Legacy: A Celebration of Life for our 2023 President, Kenneth C. Schaefer**

Earlier this evening, we gathered as a community to celebrate the life and legacy of our beloved past President of IREM Columbus. It was a day filled with heartfelt memories, shared stories, and a profound sense of gratitude for the impact he made on our lives and our profession.

The balloon send-off was a poignant moment, symbolizing the release of our sadness and the embracing of the beautiful memories that remain. As we watched the balloons ascend into the sky, we were reminded of the light Ken brought into our lives, and how his spirit will continue to inspire us.

To everyone who attended, shared their stories, and helped make this day so meaningful, thank you. Your presence was a testament to the lasting influence of a leader who truly made a difference.

Let us honor Ken’s legacy by upholding the values he championed; and continue striving to make a positive impact in all that we do.

Thank you to the team at Cortland Living Powell for allowing us to use your beautiful venue for our celebration. It was just perfect!

What a Busy Day for IREM Columbus!

Yesterday, the IREM® Columbus Board of Directors kicked off our Strategic Planning for 2025 at Retreat 21. We’re excited to announce that the 2025 ballot for the Board of Directors, the upcoming calendar, and the Industry Partner Program will be revealed soon. Keep an eye on our page for these important updates!

After our strategic planning session, the Board gathered at the Tap Room at 21 to connect with our members and 2024 Industry Partners. The venue, located just past the Plain City border in Marysville, provided the perfect backdrop for discussions about future events and opportunities. Dear IREM® Columbus Members, Industry Partners, and friends of IREM®.

It is with profound sadness that I must inform you of the unexpected passing of our Immediate Past President and current Board Member Ken Schaefer on Wednesday, July 3rd. Ken was not just a member of our Commercial Real Estate community; he was an integral pillar whose dedication and contributions have significantly shaped the growth and stability of our chapter.

Ken's commitment to IREM® and his passion for advancing our industry were evident in everything he did. His leadership and unwavering support have left an indelible mark on all of us who had the privilege to work alongside him.

During this difficult time, our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with Ken's family and loved ones. We recognize the impact of this loss on our community and offer our heartfelt condolences to all who knew him.

As we mourn the loss of a dear friend and colleague, let us also remember the invaluable contributions Ken made to IREM® Columbus. His legacy will continue to inspire us as we move forward.

We will provide information regarding Ken's Celebration of Life as we learn more. Thank you.

Well we had another successful IREM Columbus Lunch & Learn event with Crawford Hoying this afternoon. It's filled with some very insightful information, starting with our President's Message from our 2024 President, Kevin Friend, MBA, CPM®, LEED Green Associate. He provides some insight and details from our March 21st event at Vitria on the Square.

In our Local Chapter News, we celebrate one of our esteemed Past Presidents from 1995, Rick Underman, who was the recipient of the 2024 IREM Columbus ICON Award. Rick and his wife, Lee Ann, came to town for the event to receive the award. We were honored to have them both in attendance. The "Read More" section provides a very insightful history from our President, Kevin Friend, MBA, CPM®, LEED Green Associate, regarding Rick's journey in our industry.

On Thursday, March 21st, we gathered to celebrate the contributions of our esteemed Past Presidents. The luncheon took place in the beautiful Vitria on the Square facility on The Ohio State University campus. This event served as a reminder of the collective legacy of our past leaders.

Wow!!! The 4th day of instruction for the IREM ARM® designation course, RES201/ARM Track was jam packed, IREM Columbus!

Thank you, to Rick Gutridge and Barbara Davis of PuroClean | Columbus for bringing us Beehive Bread Company Quiches. They were divine! Thank you so much for starting out our day with this awesome treat and for sharing how you can help the property managers during a disaster or their plumbing needs.

Next, Charlie Snyder & David Melfi with EMI - Environmental Management, Inc. brought us 101 Beer Kitchen. Yummy homemade mac & cheese was exactly what we needed. Thank you for the awesome lunch and for sharing what EMI can assist the students with at their properties. The sunglasses were pretty cool for this sunny day as well. We looked awesome in the sundrenched lobby of Atrium 1!!!

Then, Tara Price with Koorsen Fire & Security showed up to share some beautiful holiday cookies for our afternoon snack. Thanks Tara, Jeff Scalise, & Jeff Sopko for the awesome treats and for sharing what Koorsen can do to assist for the property manager's fire and life safety needs. We really appreciate it!

We finished the day with our hard working IREM® Columbus Board of Directors. They provided some insights for the students after our monthly Board meeting, and answered some inquisitive questions from the class.

First, our IREM Columbus 2024 President, Kevin Friend, MBA, CPM®, LEED Green Associate, provides an update from our time in Washington D.C. for the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) Advocacy + ESG Event. There's also a QR code at the end of his update which provides more insights regarding the issues we presented to our legislatures.

Next, we're offering the RES201 course at the end of March. This is the track towards achieving the ARM®, Accredited Residential Manager designation. The ARM® certification is the most recognized credential for residential real estate managers, and the ARM® Track experience will get you one step closer to earning it. The ARM® Track explores key concepts related to ethical real estate management and reviews the following key competency areas related to effective residential site management: human resources and relationship management, property financial management, maintenance and risk management, and marketing and leasing.
