It was a special evening at MidTown Columbus as we celebrated and honored President Alan Harkness for a remarkable year of leadership with the Rotary Club of Columbus!

Under Alan’s leadership, we accomplished so much together. From helping us get to know one another better through his “Get to Know a Rotarian” moments at each meeting, to hands-on service projects like Done-In-A-Meeting, Feeding The Valley Food Bank, and building a shed for Micah's Promise, he fostered a spirit of fellowship, service, and community-minded collaboration that strengthened our club and our impact. He also helped unite our Rotary International family through the Run for MercyMed of Columbus, bringing together the three Columbus-area Rotary clubs in support of MercyMed and the GRSP.

Alan led with humility, heart, and a joyful sense of humor that made everyone feel welcome and valued! His year as president reminded us that Rotary is not only about what we do, but who we become together. Well done, President Alan! Thank you for your faithful leadership and for leaving a lasting legacy that will continue to bless our club and community for years to come.

Did you know that the Rotary Club of Columbus donates approx 50 childrens’ books to the library each year? In lieu of a speaker gift, they are inscribed with the name of each week’s presenter. Here’s a photo of our President meeting with the Library Director. (This year, our esteemed Library Director is also serving as President of the Rotary Club!) Join us this week, as we hear a panel discussion with Bobbi Starr, Executive Director at Micah's Promise, and several law enforcement officers moderated by Jason Dennis.

One of our committee goals is to help educate the community about the issue. Over the past two years, our club and district have sponsored or supported professional training about this crime for law enforcement officers, legal professionals and health professionals. Rotary's support of this training has equipped law enforcement to more quickly identify the crime, more effectively work with advocates and more compassionately work with victims. We trust that hearing about the impact of this work will inspire our club to support future opportunities for professional and community education. The work of your End Human Trafficking Now (EHTN) Committee positively impacts law enforcement and some of the most vulnerable in our community.

Today’s Rotary Club of Columbus meeting highlighted the power of student voices through the Rotary Laws of Life Essay Program.

We were honored to welcome students, families, and educators from Shaw High School and Chattahoochee County High School.

Congratulations to our local winners, Wan Sian Long and Shylah Luna, who shared their essays during the meeting, along with fellow student finalists who brought thoughtful perspective and heart to the program.

Each winner received their medallion in recognition of their achievement.

A meaningful reminder that the future is in good hands.
