On April 11th, collegiate birding clubs from around the country competed to see who could find the most species in a single day! Congratulations to the Michigan State Birding Club on winning this year’s competition with 120 species!!!

Texas Spring Break! 🤠🐥

During spring break, OSU ornithology club went down to Texas! We traveled through Dallas, Austin, the Rio Grande Valley, and everywhere in between! We so so many birds and made many more memories!!!

Some highlights include American Flamingo, Elf Owl, Green Kingfisher, Red-cockaded Woodpecker, Aplomado Falcon, over 10,000 Great Tailed Grackles, and many more! Check out our trip report below for the full list!!!

PEENT! Another week with bird club!

🚶Our yearly Woodcock walk took us to to Battelle Darby Creek MetroPark to watch the American Woodcock courtship displays! We ended up seeing three Woodcocks, Short Eared Owls, a Great Horned Owl, and Trumpeter Swans! We also saw the Ohio Bison!

🎬 Our 11th meeting of the year was our movie night! We watched the documentary “Listers: A Glimpse into Extreme Birdwatching”

🌿Our weekend trip on 3/7 took us to the fabled Walnut Woods where we saw many ✨mystical✨ species of birds! Including the elusive Orange Crowned Warbler, Yellow-dumped Warblers, Rusty Blackbird, a Green Winged Teal, and Bald Eagle!

Our Texas spring break trip is just around the corner! Stay tuned to see what we get up to! 🤠

Cape May 2025! 🍁🪶

Over fall break, OSU Bird club waddled over to Cape May, New Jersey to watch the migrating fall birds! We saw birds as small as the Red-Breasted Nuthatch to as large as Brown Pelicans! We traveled to Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge, Avalon Beach, Cape May Bird Observatory, South Cape Meadows, Nummy Island, Cape May Hawk Watch, Coral Beach, and the Cape May National Wildlife Refuge! We even went whale watching to GANNET-der at Northern Gannets, Scoters, Dolphins, and Whales! 🐳
We loved our fall in New Jersey!

Canoe believe it? Bird Club reeled in the semester with a kayaking trip on Big Darby Creek! We shore were ex-krill-arated to spend our Reading Day morning with out on the water, where we found 60 bird species (and countless turtles!)🐢🦦🛶

Thank you so much for such a wonder-fowl year, and we hope everybirdy has a chickadee-lightful summer! ☀️💕

Happy Spring Big Day!! On Saturday, members of bird clubs from far and wide grabbed their bins and set out in teams in order to find the most species possible in one day. Across the 28 participating organizations in our Intercollegiate Big Day Competition, we managed to find 436 bird species (!!), with Colorado State University in first place at 145 species! What a way to spring into the new season; thank you to everyone who participated!🌷🌱✨
