The American Society for Nondestructive Testing

The American Society for Nondestructive Testing The American Society for Nondestructive Testing, Inc. (ASNT) is the world's largest technical society for nondestructive testing (NDT) professionals.

Through our organization and membership, we provide a forum for exchange of NDT technical information; NDT educational materials and programs; and standards and services for the qualification and certification of NDT personnel. ASNT promotes the discipline of NDT as a profession and facilitates NDT research and technology applications. Nondestructive testing (NDT) is the process of inspecting, tes

ting, or evaluating materials, components or assemblies for discontinuities, or differences in characteristics without destroying the serviceability of the part or system. In other words, when the inspection or test is completed the part can still be used. ASNT Mission - ASNT exists to create a safer world by advancing scientific, engineering, and technical knowledge in the field of nondestructive testing.™

ASNT is a nonprofit corporation governed by a board of directors and national officers. The Society is organized into councils which govern issues related to 1) Technical and Education, 2) Research, 3) Section Operations, 4) Certification and 5) Engineering. These councils meet regularly to achieve the goals and objectives of the overall organization. Day to day operations and activities are managed by the ASNT International Service Center staff in Columbus, Ohio.

Congratulations to Thomas Jones, a recipient of ASNT’s 50 Year Member Recognition! 🎉

With decades of dedication to nondestructive testing, Tom has built a distinguished career advancing inspection technologies across research, aerospace, defense, and manufacturing applications. He was first introduced to NDT while studying Engineering Mechanics at Virginia Tech, where his graduate work explored ultrasonics, acoustic emission, infrared thermography, and the use of vibrothermography to detect damage in composite materials.

Throughout his career, Tom contributed to the development and application of inspection methods for composite aircraft structures, DoD materials and systems, and titanium and superalloy turbine engine components. His work has helped advance understanding of complex materials and improve the effectiveness of NDT technologies across critical industries.

ASNT’s 50 Year Member Recognition honors individuals who have demonstrated unwavering commitment to the Society for half a century or more. Tom’s technical contributions, service as an ASNT Fellow, and support of the ASNT Handbook exemplify the spirit of this prestigious recognition.

Join us in congratulating Tom on this well-deserved milestone!
