Retirement gave Bonita the time back. She decided to spend some of it here.

Once a week, she sits down with a student at CTI, and what started as a way to fill her Tuesdays turned into something she looks forward to. Reading with a kid, being someone they can count on, has given Bonita a kind of purpose she wasn’t expecting to find again.

Dear Future Volunteer,

You don’t need a teaching background. You don’t need decades of free time. You just need one hour a week, and a willingness to show up for the same child, over and over, until they know they can count on you.

That’s it. That’s the whole ask.

Somewhere in Central Ohio, there’s a student waiting for someone like you.

Meet the team turning a belief in young readers, into action. ❤️📚

Whether it’s helping a student see what’s possible, supporting the mentors who show up for them, or creating programs that give kids more opportunities to grow, this team puts a lot of care into making every interaction count.

But this work extends far beyond the three faces you see here. It’s strengthened by every volunteer who gives their time, every partner who opens a door, and every supporter who believes in what we’re building. Together, they help create more opportunities for kids to feel supported, encouraged and confident in what they can become.

Follow along to see more of the journey, and tell us: What book impacted you growing up? Drop it in the comments! 📖

Back-to-school season is here, and there are students who could use someone in their corner.

Through our Children’s Tutoring Initiative, we partner with schools to match trained community volunteers with students to help strengthen their reading skills and build confidence.

No teaching experience required. We provide the training, and you commit just 30 minutes to one hour, one day a week during the school day!

Summer is wrapping up, but the reading fun isn’t. 📚 Save this for later and send it to someone supporting a young reader!

As kids head back to the classroom, simple reading habits can help them build confidence and make reading part of their everyday routine.

From car rides to audiobooks, here are a few easy ways to keep kids reading, listening and learning this school year.

Our interns understood the assignment. 😂📚

If you’re new here, Charleys Kids Foundation helps kids build confidence and stronger reading skills through programs like the Children’s Tutoring Initiative and Leaders Arise. Our interns spent the summer helping our team move that mission forward behind the scenes.

We’re so grateful for the energy, dedication, and heart they brought to Charleys Kids Foundation this summer.

Looking for a way to make a difference in your community? 👀⬇️📚

Still not over the fun we had at the Columbus Book Festival 😂 A little throwback to a day spent sharing the Charleys Kids Foundation mission and connecting with families and future volunteers who care about helping kids grow through literacy.

Through our Children’s Tutoring Initiative program, volunteers spend just 30 minutes to one hour, one day a week, reading with and supporting a student during the school day. A small commitment of time can become a consistent source of encouragement for a young reader.
