Ranger Students of Charlie Company, 5th Ranger Training Battalion conduct rappelling training at Mount Yonah during Mountain Phase of Ranger School.

Every descent demands focus, confidence, and trust in training. These cliffs have tested generations of future Ranger leaders striving to earn the right to wear the Ranger Tab.

The Ranger Legacy Center is about far more than a museum.

It is about Rangers telling the Ranger story. Not a watered-down version. Not someone else's interpretation. Our history, told by the men and families who lived it.

It is also about the future and ensuring that the battle-tested principles of leadership, character, discipline, and service continue to inspire and guide future generations.

If we do not preserve and tell our own story, someone else will. And when that happens, the details, the lessons, the sacrifices, and the values that define the Ranger community can be lost. We have a responsibility to write and preserve our history for future generations.

Just as important, the Ranger Legacy Center will be a home for the Ranger community. A place where Rangers of every era, Ranger families, Gold Star families, and patriots can gather, reconnect, and belong.

A place where a Ranger can walk through the door and be surrounded by people who understand. A place to share stories, celebrate accomplishments, honor sacrifice, and build friendships that span generations.

A place that feels familiar. A place that feels welcoming.

A place that feels like home.

That is the vision of the Ranger Legacy Center.

The Best Ranger Competition is more than an event. It is a proving ground.

For three intense days, teams from across the force are tested in events that demand physical endurance, technical precision, and mental resilience. Excellence is not assumed. It is demonstrated.

Ranger Hall of Fame 2026.

Sergeant First Class Matthew Loren Rierson is inducted into the Ranger Hall of Fame for extraordinary service, exceptional leadership, and a lifelong embodiment of the Ranger Creed. Throughout his distinguished career, he demonstrated remarkable courage, tactical mastery, and unwavering commitment to his fellow Rangers and the nation.

A veteran of the 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Sergeant First Class Rierson set the standard for Ranger noncommissioned officers through performance, discipline, and humility. Following his service in the Regiment, he continued to lead at the highest levels as an assault team leader with 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta, earning a reputation as a quiet professional whose excellence influenced formations far beyond his own.

During combat operations in Mogadishu in October 1993, Sergeant First Class Rierson participated in every mission conducted by Task Force Ranger. Over the course of October 3 and 4, he led his team during the initial assault, secured assigned objectives, and repeatedly fought through intense enemy fire to es**rt detainees and reinforce isolated friendly forces. His leadership, courage, and calm presence under fire provided critical relief to exhausted assault elements engaged in prolonged combat. For his actions, Matt was posthumously awarded the Silver Star.

Sergeant First Class Rierson’s legacy endures through the Rangers he inspired, the standards he set, and the example he provided of what it means to move further, faster, and fight harder. His induction into the Ranger Hall of Fame honors a Ranger whose life and service reflect the highest traditions of the Regiment and the United States Army.
