Join us for an entertaining afternoon of toe-tapping vintage New Orleans Dance Hall Music. You'll definitely want to bring your dancing shoes! 💃🎺

October 11 at the Clintonville Woman's Club
Dave Kosmyna's New Orleans Feetwarmers
2:30 pm to 5 pm + SwingColumbus 2-hr Lindy Hop Workshop: Jig Walks 11:30 am-1:30 pm

Legendary Hot Jazz Trumpet Player Dave Kosmyna will be bringing in a great group of regional musicians, including John Grafing, Ben Herrick, Alex Belhaj, and rounding it out with Columbus native Steve Perakis on Bass.

Hailing from Toledo, Dave started playing trumpet in the region's hot-jazz capital with bands led by Rick Grafing and Ray Heitger, and began leading his own groups. This has carried him through a wonderful career of teaching and passing on the skills it takes to play traditional jazz.

SwingColumbus 2-hr Lindy Hop Workshop: Jig Walks
Oct 11th, 11:30 am-1:30 pm
Class is in the upstairs ballroom of the Clintonville Woman's Club

SwingColumbus instructors Shannon Varner and Mark Calkins will be leading a workshop on Jig Walks. Jig Walks is classic swing dance that adds a lively and playful element to partner dancing. It is a versatile transition between Lindy Hop and Charleston, and can be adapted to different musical tempos. It's a great dance style to add to your swing dance repertoire! This workshop is an open level class.

Don’t miss this!
PLEASE NOTE: BYOB and your own snacks to enjoy.

ADMISSION
General Admission $20, COHJS Members + SwingColumbus Dancers $15, Music Educators and Music Students FREE! All other students $10. Tickets sold at the door.

A single $30 fee gets you admission to both the workshop and the COHJS dance afterwards from 2:30 - 5:00 pm.

Tomorrow! We're kicking off our Hot Jazz Fall Show and Dance season with Dave Greer's Classic Jazz Stompers from Dayton, for our September show - Sunday, September 6th from 2:30p-5p at The Clintonville Woman's Club - 3951 N High Street, Columbus

The band was founded in 1981, the same year as COHJS, and shares with us a passion to be "keepers of the flame" for traditional jazz music of the 1920's and 30's. They are one of the best trad jazz bands currently playing, and we're lucky to have them so "close to home" to play frequently for us here!

The band has a unique focus among trad jazz bands. The band's write up for a Grugelfest program described it well: the band is inspired by "the moment in the late 1920s and early 1930s when classic jazz evolved into small-band swing. The front line remained intact, while the driving rhythm of tuba and banjo was lightened by the substitution of guitar and string bass. Unhampered by horn sections or written arrangements of big band jazz, the music let lead players explore their own creativity with the support of a 'modern' rhythm section, looking backward with an affectionate smile and forward with an appreciative glance."

The Band: Front LIne is Erik Greiffenhagen, Reeds; Chris Moore, Cornet; Vaughn Wiester, Trombone. The rhythm section is Dave Greer, Band Leader, Banjo + Tenor guitar; Chris Berg, String Bass; Brien Cashwell, Piano; and Jim Leslie, on Drums.

"NOTE: there will be no food concessions at the show. Feel free to BYOB and bring your own snacks. There will be coffee, tea, lemonade, and water provided."

General Admission $20
COHJS Members + SwingColumbus dancers $15
Music Educators + Music Students always free - other students $10
