Thank you Spectrum News 1 Ohio for highlighting Bike Lady during your Home Town Hero segment! 💛 Reporter Aliah Keller spent the morning with us during a breakout session at the Public Children Services Association of Ohio annual conference October 6.
It's all of YOU that has put the two-wheeled magic into the holidays for 13,600 youth in foster care. Can we do it again for 500 youth in 2026? We can if you will help. Excited to share that we’re updating ways to help put more kids on bikes! We’ve always accepted tax deductible donations by check, major credit cards, and PayPal. Now we’ve added an official Venmo charity donation option! No matter how things are processed - the result is the same for the recipient: Joy, freedom, opportunity, hope, and a positive lifelong childhood memory - that of their first new bike! 🚲❤️🚲

It’s been a minute since we’ve been behind the wire, but we talked today with one of our past partner institutions. Does it make sense for them to return to some bike-building community service? Does it make sense for us? Time will tell. One thing is certain: The leadership and staff are as impressive as we remember, and it sure felt good to be back inside.

There was a sign at the security sallyport. I think it was a ‘core principles for all who enter here’ kinda thing. The final block said something like “Hope is our one true job”. I can’t recall the exact wording. I just remember thinking, “Yep. Hope. Us too.”

Every bike gives a measure of hope to every person who touches it. From donor to assembler to transporter to gift-giver to recipient - a whole lot of hope rides on that bike. We’ll never stop being amazed and motivated by how something so simple can mean so much to so many. We’re glad to be welcomed back - into your hearts as well as back into prison.

To close out the Public Children Services Association of Ohio annual conference, we supported a team-building breakout session where attendees shared challenges, celebrated expertise, and learned that they are not alone. They also happened to build 25 more bikes for kids in care! Sometimes the bikes are a different kind of vehicle - a vehicle of connection and collaboration and change. Sometimes we need to do something with our hands so that our thoughts can organize and be clearly expressed, and so our hearts can truly feel full. And that’s - where something as simple as a bike can . We call that . ❤️🚴🏻‍♀️🚴🏾‍♂️🚴❤️

Today was the opener of the Public Children Services Association of Ohio annual conference with 600 social worker attendees. And a whole peloton of Bike Lady volunteers showed up, unboxed, and cranked out 75 bikes for kids in foster care! Another 25 bikes will be built by conference attendees during a later breakout session. 💙

🚴🏻‍♀️ When the conference closes Friday, all 100 bikes will be loaded into social workers’ cars and transported to Ohio counties far and wide - from Allen County to Van Wert - for a special child in care. 💛

🚴🏾‍♂️ There are about 15,000 Ohio kids in foster care, so 100 bikes are a drop in the bucket. But for these 100 kids, a bike is something big, shiny, and new. It means joy, freedom, independence - and someone cares. ❤️

🚴 A bike can create a positive lifelong memory during one of the darkest times in a young life. It feels like light in the dark. It feels like love. Something as simple as a bike creates hope. 💜

🚴🏾‍♂️ Massive thanks to Brenda Ribble, Tricia Kovacs, Eva Simmons, Crystal Allen Ward, Vanjia Shannon, Peggy Behrmann, and Gabby Reissland for creating positive lifelong memories for so many kids. You are the REAL Bike Ladies! 💪💚💪

What a beautiful sight! Our first 100 bikes for 100 kids of the 2026 season. We will build them this week at the Public Children Services Association of Ohio annual convention, side by side with the administrators and workers doing the hard work of child protective services. And then the workers will take the bikes back to their home counties - all across Ohio - to be gifted to children in their care. ❤️ It’s in action, all to . Here we go, , here we go!

Sometimes we get a call about the need for an “emergency” bike. We had that call this week and delivered today. Then before getting home, we received the call again! The 2nd delivery pic is below. It’s always a joy to deliver some !

Shout out to one of our favorite community partners the Bike Lady, who just dropped off a donation. Thanks to her generosity, a kinship teen in need of summer transportation now has a brand new bike.
