BQIC Based in Columbus, Ohio.

Black Q***r & Intersectional Collective is a grassroots community organization working toward the liberation of Black LGBTQIA+ folks through direct action, community organizing, and creating spaces. We are a coalition of Black q***r and trans people working to build a society in which Black LGBTQIA+ people from all backgrounds can thrive. We seek to dismantle racist, transphobic, and homophobic forces through community organizing, education, and creating platforms upon which we can have our voices heard.

With heavy hearts we share that comrade Sarah has passed away. With extreme gratitude and appreciation for Sarah we welcome folks to share fond memories of her in the comments.

Sarah impacted all those who knew her. As a lead medic for many of our protests and community pride events and festival, Sarah always showed up with knowledge and a fierce love for her community. She was intentional, took time with fellow medics and comrades to share skills and support, and always showed up for her loved ones and community.

Sarah’s passing is a huge loss to all those who knew her, spent time with her and learned from her brilliance. We hold so much love for her family, her chosen family, FACO, the pagan community, and the community safety community especially during this time. We hope everyone finds time to share memories, honor her work, and find ways to keep her memory alive.

Until we see each other again, comrade. Thank you for everything and SNS

JAMES BALDWIN would be 102 today.

Born August 2, 1924, in Harlem, James Baldwin grew up the eldest of nine children, raised primarily by his mother and a stepfather who was a preacher, a religious childhood that shaped his early writing. He left the U.S. for Paris in 1948 at age 24, and went on to write many works across genres.

Novels: Go Tell It on the Mountain (1953); Giovanni's Room (1956); Another Country (1962); Tell Me How Long the Train's Been Gone (1968); If Beale Street Could Talk (1974).

Black August began in 1979 when incarcerated organizers inside San Quentin held it down for Jonathan P. Jackson and George Jackson, brothers who fought the carceral state that cages Black people, especially Black q***r and trans people.

BQIC exists because we believe in a world with no police, no prisons, no detention centers. This month, we study, we remember, and we keep building toward that world.

Black People Deserve To Live & To Have Justice: Reflections on the ongoing investigation into the death of Nolan Wells

Nolan Xavier Wells, 18, was a wide receiver at Southwest Mississippi Community College. On July 4th, he boated to Horn Island, Mississippi with friends to celebrate and never made it home. His family wants a full, transparent, and timely investigation.

Nolan's disappearance and potential murder makes us think of countless other unresolved deaths of Black people, especially our LGBTQIA+ community. Cases where families and communities are left chasing answers instead of receiving them. This is why we demand transparency.
-
We direct folks to the demands of his family:

A full and timely investigation into Nolan's death.
Release of all investigative records and witness statements.
Answers about the circumstances leading to his death.

And be sure to check out and share the GoFundMe for his family's support

Happy Birthday to Essex Hemphill.

His writing confronted the devastation of the AIDS epidemic and insisted that Black liberation is incomplete without q***r liberation.

"If I don't define myself for myself, I would be crunched into other people's fantasies for me and eaten alive." — Essex Hemphill

“History isn’t something you look back at and say it was inevitable. It happens because people make decisions that are sometimes very impulsive and of the moment, but those moments are cumulative realities.”

- Marsha P. Johnson

Forever and always, we'll honor the legacy of our ancestors.

Marsha’s legacy lives on through her role in the fight for LGBTQ+ liberation, her commitment to caring for those most marginalized. Her life reminds us that liberation is measured by how we protect and fight for each other.
