Save the date for September 3rd for our City of Youngstown Workforce & Community Resource Fair!

⚠For immediate release..⚠

Beginning Tuesday, September 1, 2026, the Youngstown School Zone Safety Initiative will resume for the 2026/2027 school year. Using the TrueBlue Single Beam per-lane LIDAR system, our school zones will be photo enforced on all school days until 6pm, when children are present or likely to be present, to slow drivers down in our school zones.

The school zone beacons will be flashing (blinking yellow) before, during and after arrival and dismissal times for each individual school. When the school zone beacons are flashing, the 20mph reduced speed will be enforced. When the beacons are not flashing, the regular speed limit will be enforced on school days until 6pm, meaning drivers can still receive a citation for exceeding the posted speed limit even when yellow lights are not flashing.

A list of the photo enforced school zones and their schedules is below.

The Youngstown Police Department is committed to slowing drivers down in our school zones to ensure the safety of our students, teachers and community.

We look forward to welcoming new and familiar faces to the district in the next few weeks!

For 26-27, YCSD has staggered start schedules for key grades to help scholars get acclimated into their schools. Please look forward to more Back to School information. The countdown has officially begun 🙌⏰
