Something special is happening at Tranquility Gardens as summer begins to wind down, we’re preparing for one of our most anticipated community events of the year: Ci**rs & Sundresses Under the Stars

This event is about more than ci**rs, music, and a beautiful summer evening, it’s about bringing people together. It’s about creating opportunities to connect, unwind, build relationships, and support a mission that is making a difference in the lives of veterans, first responders, families, and our community.

Imagine a warm summer night beneath the stars with good conversations, great people and the smooth sounds of live jazz filling the air. And this year, we’re excited to welcome the Columbus Jazz Society, who will be providing an unforgettable evening of live entertainment.

You Can Appeal

A denial is NOT the end. One of the biggest misconceptions among veterans is believing that a denied claim means the VA has made its final decision. That simply isn’t true.

Every year, thousands of veterans receive denials and walk away from benefits they may have been entitled to because they didn’t realize they had options.

Sometimes the VA:
• Overlooks important evidence
• Misapplies the law
• Relies on an inadequate C&P examination
• Fails in its Duty to Assist
• Assigns the wrong rating
• Misses critical details in your medical records

And when that happens, veterans have the right to challenge the decision. Depending on the circumstances, you may be able to:

Request a Higher-Level Review
A senior reviewer takes another look at your case to determine whether the VA made an error.

File a Supplemental Claim
Submit new and relevant evidence that may strengthen your case and lead to a different outcome.

Appeal to the Board of Veterans’ Appeals
Request review by a Veterans Law Judge who can independently evaluate your claim.

What many veterans don’t realize is that some of the strongest claims we see today were once denied. The difference wasn’t the veteran. The difference was the evidence, strategy, and advocacy used to present the case.

Don’t let a denial define your future. A denial is a decision, it is not a life sentence. Sometimes the breakthrough comes after taking a second look.
Sometimes the victory comes through the appeal.
And sometimes the difference between losing and winning is simply refusing to quit.

If you’ve been denied, don’t assume the fight is over. You may have more options than you think.

At the VFAC, we’ve seen firsthand how life-changing progress often begins with one small step. One conversation. One connection. One opportunity. One decision to keep going.

The veterans we serve didn’t reach their breakthroughs overnight. They got there by taking one step at a time. By refusing to give up. By choosing progress over perfection.

And the same is true for all of us. Don’t discount how far you’ve come because you’re focused on how far you still have to go. Celebrate the progress. Acknowledge the growth. Keep building momentum. Because today’s small win can become tomorrow’s breakthrough.

Recently, the Veterans & Family Assistance Center partnered with the Purple Stitch Club for a special crafting event at The Sanctuary in Seale, Alabama.

What looked like crafting was really about connection, healing, creativity, and community. The room was filled with laughter, fellowship, and meaningful moments.
We’re grateful for partnerships like this that continue creating spaces where veterans, families, and the community can come together, connect, and grow.

A denial does NOT always mean the fight is over.
Sometimes the missing piece is simply new and relevant evidence. That’s where a Supplemental Claim comes in.

A Supplemental Claim allows veterans to submit additional evidence that can reopen and strengthen a previously denied claim.

This can include:• New medical records• Nexus letters• Updated diagnoses• Lay statements• Buddy letters• New medical opinions• Evidence the VA may not have previously considered

And here’s what many veterans don’t realize, a claim that was denied before can absolutely be approved later with the right evidence and strategy.

We’ve seen veterans spend years feeling defeated after denials, only to finally receive the benefits they deserved because the missing evidence was properly developed and submitted.

The key is understanding WHY the claim was denied in the first place. Was evidence missing?Was the nexus weak? Did the VA overlook something important?

Once you identify the issue, you can begin building the case the right way. Don’t let one denial convince you to give up. Sometimes the breakthrough comes after taking a second look and presenting the right evidence.

New evidence can reopen your case—and potentially change your future.
