We came up with the idea for Green Ops while out hiking one day. As we were climbing a huge rock and finding bottles and cans, we realized it was hard to describe exactly what we were doing. We were hiking, but we were collecting garbage. We were picking up trash, but on the side of a cliff. Whatever it was, it was awesome, and WAY better then sitting inside playing video games. We want Green Ops
to show that not everyone who is 'green' is boring and responsible. And to remind people that as cool as your new TV is, it's got nothing on a giant mountain. We are outdoor enthusiasts who generally prefer that our natural areas not be treated as one giant trash can. We hike, kayak and canoe, climb giant trees, play disc golf, ski, jog, all the while picking up any trash we see, and trying to make things better than we found them. Not because we have some kind of moral guilt about fixing the world, but because the scenery kinda looks better without plastic bottles and old tires. We say recycle the bottles and make a million tire swings. Ok, a little bit of formalized seriousness for those who care...
Green Ops' primary mission is to locate and remove trash and pollutants from natural areas such as national, state, and local parks, nature preserves, hiking trails, and any other wild areas open to us. We also work to maintain public lands, support responsible development and wilderness preservation, and to promote the benefits of recreational opportunities, fitness activities, and a balanced, natural diet.
