Care and Share Time Bank

Care and Share Time Bank We're a neighborhood service-exchange in Columbus, Ohio, building grassroots community and trade since 2010! Welcome! Check our events calendar to learn more!

For every hour you spend providing services to another member you earn one time credit to spend on services from other members. At the Care and Share Time Bank (CSTB), we believe we can all get what we want and need if we share what we have, including our time and talents. There are hundreds of services available from CSTB members and the exchange is constantly growing and changing as new members

join. The more our membership grows, the more services there are available and the more members available to provide them more often. This enhances both the community and the lives of its members. For more information, please visit our website or attend one of our orientations. Here is a link to the article about us that appeared in the Columbus Dispatch: https://tinyurl.com/CSTBmedia

Time Banks 101

Start the New Year Right — Join Us at the January 18th Time Bank Potluck

Want to get more out of your Time Bank membership this year? Have you been meaning to find out more about time banking? Did you tell yourself that you would explore time banking –but didn’t get around to it?

Come to our January potluck and let’s explore how we can help each other make the most of our shared network of skills, talents, and goodwill. Whether you’re wondering: -How to find someone who offers the service you need -How to post your own requests -What skills you might have to offer (you probably have more than you think!) -How to earn hours and how to spend hours -Or simply how the Time Bank works in real life —we’ll walk through it together in a relaxed, friendly environment. Bring a dish to share, bring your questions, and bring your curiosity.

Let’s start 2026 by strengthening our community, learning from one another, and discovering new ways to give and receive support. If you have been using the CSTB just fine and don't need help, please come to support others!

Or maybe you would like to know how you can help our Time Bank community grow:

+Bring a Friend, Earn an Hour! Help us grow the Care and Share Time Bank community! When you bring a non-member guest to the upcoming potluck and presentation, you’ll earn one extra Time Bank Credit as a thank-you for spreading the word. It’s the perfect chance to introduce a friend, neighbor, or coworker to the spirit of sharing and connection that makes our Time Bank so special.

AND/OR --- Earn Extra Time Bank Hours at the Potluck!

+Be our event photographer! Snap some photos during the gathering to help us share the spirit of community on our social media and in our emails. You’ll earn one Time Bank Credit for your help — and our heartfelt thanks!

+Come at 6 to help set-up! People are invited to arrive at 6pm to help us set up for the potluck. You don’t have to do anything physically strenuous, just help us get ready! Earn a Time Bank Credit for joining us for set-up or post-potluck cleanup.

+We are also working on carpooling to the potlucks! If a person can carpool as a driver, they can earn a Time Bank Credit for helping others! If you are interested in carpooling, please contact [email protected]. If you need a ride, also write to [email protected]

The potluck will start about 6:30. Most people arrive around 6:15 to talk and greet each other! We will gather at the First UU (93 W Weisheimer Rd, Columbus, OH 43214).

Yes! Bring a dish to share if you can -we wouldn’t turn anyone away for not bringing food! Since we have such a wide range of dietary restrictions, please write out a simple list of the ingredients in your dish.

We will have a “Sharing” table! If you would like, bring a gently used item for others to take, browse to see if there’s something you would like.

We are asking for people to bring EVERYTHING needed for the potluck for themselves.

My deep regrets, but the CSTB Potluck is canceled for tonight, Feb 16th.
The weather forecast is just AWFUL!
We HATE to cancel the potluck, but the safety of our potential attendees is important!
I'll get together with Rita to figure out when we can reschedule!

Meanwhile, I hope you might consider coming to the Simply Living film at Studio 35 next Sunday Sunday, February 23 2025 at noon (doors at 11:30) for the humorously named film, Join or Die. Join or Die is a film about why you should join a club — and why the fate of America depends on it. Follow the story of America's civic unraveling through the journey of Robert Putnam, whose legendary "Bowling Alone" research into American community decline may hold the answers to our democracy's present crisis.

Concert for
a Meaningful Labor Day

Let’s put some meaning back into the Labor Day holiday this year by singing the praises -- literally -- of all the workers who make our lives richer by doing their everyday jobs--- farmers, truckers, factory workers, teachers, doctors, white collar workers, miners, and more.

Join Bill Cohen as he sings songs made famous by a wide variety of folks: Woody Guthrie, Sam Cooke, Dolly Parton, Pete Seeger, Bruce Springsteen, Alabama, Leadbelly, etc

Powerful vocal harmonies will be added by veteran Columbus musicians Phil Hart and Teresa Schleifer.

Plus, we’ll recall how, decades ago, labor unions won historic reforms that many of us take for granted today – the 8-hour workday, improved workplace safety, the minimum wage, and an end to child labor.

WHEN: Sunday September 3rd 4 pm – 5:30 pm
WHERE: Columbus Mennonite Church
35 Oakland Park Avenue, Columbus 43214.

We’ll ask for $15 per person donations at the door, but all contributions, big and small, will be welcome. The musicians will be splitting the proceeds with The Coalition of Immokalee Workers, an activist group that has helped organize and mobilize some of the nation’s most impoverished farmworkers who do back-breaking labor, picking tomatoes, strawberries, peppers, and more.

Rita and I went down another hour-long walk today!Thank you, Rita!
