Kansas 4-H is the youth development program for K-State Research and Extension. Through 4-H's educational mission, we help youth to learn by doing. In 4-H, we are committed to providing positive experiences for as many young people as possible. While 4-H is a network of families that grows great kids, it is more than that. 4-H helps youth to learn life skills and to reach their full potential in becoming engaged adults who make valuable social and economic contributions in their communities.
4-H is open to 7-18 year olds who have turned 7 on or before January 1, or turned 18 on or before January 1 of the current year. We also have a Cloverbuds program that is open to 5 & 6 year olds who have turned 5 or 6 on or before January 1. We currently have 5 club's that meet once a month to discuss what is up and coming in 4-H. Those clubs meet in different places around the county and have great members involved who warmly welcome new members. October 1 is the start of our new 4-H year so that is the perfect time to get kiddos enrolled and started in the program, but don't worry, if you don't get signed up immediately. We accept enrollments until May 1. We have 32 different project areas, some of which are very active, some of which are fairly up and coming, in Cherokee County. Projects range from shooting sports, sewing, cooking, showing livestock, reading, entomology, and more. When you enroll in Cherokee County 4-H you will select one of the five clubs, which have monthly meetings, and will have 4-H families with all different interests and project specialties. Community club meetings are a great opportunity for your child and yourself to learn all about Cherokee County 4-H upcoming events, and to get to know some families that can assist you with getting started in a project. So, how do you sign up for the Cherokee County 4-H program? We have an online enrollment process that includes a $15 payment per enrolled child. The following link will take you through a step-by-step process to get enrolled: https://4honline.com/. If you aren't sure which club to choose during enrollment, that is okay. Just choose one for the time being and attend a few meetings to see if it's the club for you. If not, we can get you switched to a different club to try out. Lastly, don't hesitate to call 620-429-3849 or email [email protected] if you have any questions about 4-H.
