MEET CAROLINE HONG - featured pianist at our April 15th masterworks concert RACHMANINOFF!
Dr. Caroline Hong is internationally active as a teacher, concert performer, masterclass instructor, and competition adjudicator. She is Professor and Area Head of Piano at School of Music at The Ohio State University. She studied at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University. For her graduate degrees, Hong attended the Julliard School of Music and Indiana University, where she also served as an Associate Instructor. She counts among her mentors Jerome Lowenthal, who taught her at the Music Academy of the West; and Sergei Babayan, with whom she first worked at the Babayan International Piano Academy. She has served as a faculty member for the Amalfi Coast Music Festival, Vianden International Festival and School (Luxembourg), Indiana University Jacobs Summer Piano Academy, and Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.
Hong holds special interest in contemporary piano music, and in the legacy of Franz Liszt. After one of her performances of John Corigliano’s challenging Etude Fantasy, the Pulitzer Prize and Academy Award-winning composer praised her as “one of the greatest pianists I have ever heard.” She is the founder of the American Liszt Society Ohio Chapter, where she also serves on the board of directors, and as Artistic Director of the Franz Liszt International Piano Festival and Competition.
Dr. Hong is a Steinway Artist and won the 2022-2023 Steinway Top Teacher Award.
