Mirrors is an organization that freshmen are eligible to apply for in Winter Quarter. Mirrors is open to all students with a passion for scholarship, leadership, and service within the university community. The Three Pillars of the Mirrors Sophomore Class Honorary:
1. SCHOLARSHIP: The pursuit of academic excellence and an unwavering commitment to knowledge, is the first of the ideals upheld by Mir
rors Sophomore Class Honorary. While the roots and foundations of scholarship lie in a personal willingness to learn, discover, and broaden your intellectual horizons, the second and more consequential tier of scholarship is your responsibility to use the knowledge you have attained to effect positive change and progress within the University, the city, and the global community. Prospective Mirrors members are required to obtain a cumulative GPA of 3.0.
2. LEADERSHIP: The second of the three ideals upheld by Mirrors Sophomore Class Honorary is leadership — the willingness to assume responsibility, the drive to pursue a cause, and the integrity to lead with unwavering decency and respect toward your fellow man. It is your responsibility to embrace opportunities for leadership with spirited dedication and a commitment to do what is best for those who follow you. Leadership draws not only upon the strength and force of your own personal character, but also upon your willingness to inspire those whom you lead into something truly exceptional.
3. SERVICE: The third and final ideal upheld by Mirrors, is a reflection of our commitment to better ourselves by bettering the world in which we live. Service is a limitless concept broadly defined as a will for self-sacrifice and a means to make contributions. Throughout the year, Mirrors members volunteer at the James by conversing with patients, completing administrative tasks, or simply spreading cheer. In addition, Mirrors hosts an annual dance to raise money for the hospital. Last year, the dance raised over $3,000 to help support the James. We extend our service beyond the James by volunteering at Red Cross Blood Drives. While many acts of service are often seemingly unrecognized, it is vital to understand that service can range from the most notable to the least noticeable. For example, Mirrors elects a Random Acts of Kindness Chair to celebrate birthdays, recognize achievements, and to thank people for their hard work. Mirrors was founded by two Ohio State University women who, in the early hours of one morning, saw the reflection of torches on the water of Mirror Lake. Inspired by this sight, they named their organization Mirrors and established as its motto “The reflection of what we have done — the image to which we aspire.” Each year, Mirrors holds the Mirrors Ball to benefit the James Cancer Research Hospital at OSU, for which many fundraisers are held throughout the year. Aside from the Mirrors Ball, Mirrors participates in many service projects for the university and its community, often involving volunteer work at the James.
