Free the Planet is a student organization at the Ohio State University dedicated to promoting environmental justice through community education, involvement, and action. We are currently focused on providing a platform for Columbus area environmental and sustainability organizations to connect on a more personal level with students interested in helping to protect the environment and make positive

change for our future by becoming a part of the Columbus sustainability community. We are also partnered with Students for Environmental Action in working towards divestment at OSU. Follow our divestment campaign on Twitter at and like Divest Ohio State on Facebook!

Hello fellow FTP club members,
For those of you who were unable to make it tonight, here's what ya missed:
-Video and further information regarding the trip to DC to protest the Keystone XL pipeline the weekend of February 17th. The Sierra Club bus leaves at midnight that Saturday night and you must sign up beforehand (at http://forwardonclimateohio.eventbrite.com/) in order to have a place on it. The cost of the bus ride is $45 dollars, but sponsorships may be available (contact Gabe if you want to get sponsored). The bus will leave on Saturday at midnight (officially Sunday) and will be back in Columbus by 2am on Monday morning. Even if you don't want to phone bank, let Gabe know if you are planning to come.
-We determined who was available to attend and/or volunteer at the Sustainability Panel on February 20th from 3-5pm
-We talked a little bit about other sustainability-related efforts currently in the process of being realized on campus. These are Recyclemania, which has been measuring the amount of recycling on campus by building, and the development of a campaign to create a Sustainability Center on campus. More information on these efforts and how to get involved will be available at meetings to come.
-Recycling Facility Tour will be taking place at some point in late February. Stay tuned!
-Follow Bobby at gO_SUstainable on twitter for updates on sustainability-related matters

-Rachael, your friendly FTP updater, & Gabe, your friendly FTP president!

Hello Free the Planeteers!
Last night (1/22) we had our first meeting of the semester. If you couldn't make it, that's alright, because that's what this email is for!
Yesterday we discussed plans to attend the Keystone Pipeline protest in DC and took down names of those who were interested. You can come to our next meeting or email Gabe for more information ([email protected]).
We also learned a bit more about the exciting Panel we (especially Gabe and Bobby) have been helping to plan for February 20th, from 3-5pm in the Great Hall of the Union. The Panel will encompass all of campus' diverse environmental groups and relevant University personnel in order to establish a forum to achieve dialogue between all environmentally-concerned and involved factions of the University. Please come to hear more about what the University is currently doing in terms of environmental initiatives and to engage in a campus-wide discussion! Many important topics will be covered over the course of the event.
Additionally, we bounced around some new ideas from new members (and old!), including further efforts to fight fracking, a partnership with City Farm, and a collaboration of some sort with environmentally-concerned OU students.
Also, heads up, we will be touring a recycling plant at an as yet undecided future date, so get excited!
Our next meeting will be next Tuesday, January 29th at 8pm in University Hall room 51.
