Did you know September marks National Literacy Month?! Last week, we received a donation of 1000 books for school age children from the Franklin County Sheriffs Office. 📚

We are thankful to Yasmin Farah and Aaron Whitfield for stopping by our office to bring these wonderful books!

In the coming months, SCL will distribute books to families across Central Ohio. Stay tuned for more information!

Yesterday, our Interim Chief Executive Officer Anisa Liban provided testimony in support of the creation of a commission on immigrant and refugee affairs! Thanks to Councilmember , many residents will have an opportunity to shape policies impacting immigrants and refugees across Columbus and also play a significant role in creating positive social change. Our team would also like to thank Councilmember for her support of the Somali Community.

“As our community continues to grow, we must engage immigrants and refugees and encourage them to be at the forefront of the commission’s work. We can not address the barriers faced by our most vulnerable population, without capturing ALL voices. We also can not serve them without accurate data. One of the biggest challenges, which isn’t unique only to our agency, is the lack of information on African and other Black immigrant communities. Across the State of Ohio, many agencies rely heavily on data that can provide a glimpse at who our neighbors are. What their struggles are. What their aspirations are. What their contributions are. The list goes on. This commission has a great potential to help capture this data and we are ready to provide support.“ - Anisa

Let’s make one thing clear: we stand in solidarity with our Haitian neighbors and ALL immigrants.

Hate has no place in Ohio or anywhere in the world. We are thriving today because of the incredible contributions made by immigrants and we must step up to ensure the safety and support of immigrants across Ohio.
