🎆 Fireworks Reminder for Bartholomew County Residents 🎆

As many celebrate the Independence Day holiday, please remember that fireworks laws differ depending on whether you live in the county or within the City of Columbus.

🏡 Residents Outside the City of Columbus (Bartholomew County)

Indiana law provides that:
✅ You must be 18 years of age or older to purchase fireworks.
✅ Anyone under 18 using or possessing fireworks must be supervised by someone 18 or older.
✅ Fireworks may only be discharged on your own property, on property where you have the owner's permission, or at a location approved by the Indiana State Fire Marshal.
✅ Fireworks may be used:

9:00 AM – 11:00 PM on most days.
10:00 AM – Midnight on Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, and New Year's Eve.
🏙️ Residents Inside the City of Columbus

City ordinance is more restrictive. Consumer fireworks may only be used:
📅 June 29 – July 3 and July 5 – July 9
🕔 5:00 PM until two (2) hours after sunset, but no later than 11:00 PM

📅 July 4 and December 31
🕙 10:00 AM – Midnight

⚠️ Know Before You Light
Violations of Indiana fireworks laws may result in citations and fines. More serious consequences apply if fireworks are used recklessly and cause property damage, bodily injury, or death, including possible misdemeanor or felony criminal charges.

🎇 Please celebrate responsibly:
• Keep a safe distance from spectators.
• Have a bucket of water or hose nearby.
• Never allow young children to handle fireworks.
• Never relight a firework that fails to ignite.
• Be respectful of your neighbors, pets, and veterans who may be affected by loud noises.
