Franklin County Sheriff Dallas Baldwin has downgraded the countywide Snow Emergency from Level 2 to Level 1, effective 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 27, 2026, following a meeting with the Franklin County Snow and Ice Committee. The committee includes representatives from the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), Franklin County Emergency Management & Homeland Security, the Franklin County Engineerโs Office, and the City of Columbus.
The downgrade reflects continued progress by road crews in clearing primary routes. However, road conditions remain inconsistent across the county. While some roads are clear and passable, othersโparticularly side streets and less-traveled areasโmay still be snow-covered and hazardous.
Residents are urged to exercise heightened caution and sound judgment when traveling, as conditions can change quickly from one roadway to the next. Travel should be limited to essential needs whenever possible to allow crews to continue clearing and treating roads. Road Crews continue working extended hours in extremely cold and challenging conditions, and residents are reminded to dress appropriately for the weather, limit exposure to the cold, and take steps to stay warm and safe. Individuals should contact their employers regarding reporting to work.
Those who must travel are reminded to drive with extreme care and ensure their vehicles are equipped with emergency supplies, including water, snacks, blankets, flashlights, and a first-aid kit. If a vehicle becomes stuck, drivers should ensure the tailpipe remains clear of snow to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.
