Mr. Dixon has been a Scout leader for 50+ years now!

It has been a busy week for longtime resident Chris Dixon.

The 91-year-old Columbus man and his wife, Lauretta, celebrated 71 years of marriage on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2024. And on Monday, Oct. 7, he officially stepped away from a long tenure on the City’s Senior Center Advisory Board.

“I have been very involved in my community,” said Dixon, who was named King Ferdinand for Columbus Days in 1995. “It’s just my nature. I can’t say no.”

Involved is actually a major understatement. Since moving to town in the fall of 1964 for a chemistry teaching job at Columbus High School, Dixon has made a name for himself by volunteering his time with various local organizations throughout the decades.
