“Seneca, How do you successfully lead and grow a nonprofit organization that was founded in response to the tragic loss of your daughter?”
⸻
"I lead this organization by transforming personal tragedy into purposeful impact. While the loss of my daughter, Makenzi, is the reason this nonprofit exists, its growth is rooted in service and community engagement.
My daughter’s life was taken by young black youth in our community. That reality highlighted the urgent need for restorative intervention, accountability, mentorship, and opportunity within our own neighborhoods. This organization exists to provide solutions—not blame—by investing in our youth, addressing systemic challenges, and fostering unity, responsibility, and hope.
Her legacy fuels our mission to empower youth and young adults with the resources, mentorship, and opportunities they need to make positive life choices.
Orange Hearts honors my daughter’s legacy through action. Her life—and the circumstances surrounding her death—revealed a critical need for intervention, mentorship, and support within our youth community.🧡
