PodemOSU

PODEMOS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit interdisciplinary student organization at The Ohio State University.

PODEMOS was founded in 2008 by medical and law students at The Ohio State University. PODEMOS has since expanded to include medical, nursing, pharmacy, dental and law students and professional providers. Since 2009, PODEMOS has run biannual medical brigades to villages around El Progreso, Honduras. These communities often suffer from extremely high rates of poverty, malnutrition, and poor healthca

re infrastructure. To tackle these challenges, PODEMOS takes a community health approach, providing both acute and chronic care services to patients. We employ a strong team of in-country Honduran staff, including a local nurse, to ensure care for our patients year-round. Over the years, PODEMOS has built a relationship with these communities. We return to these same communities every six months, and over time, we have seen many lives changed for the better.

Sometimes, delivering health is listening. It's hearing the conditions that people live in and learning about them. True healthcare caters to symptoms, but also to the person. More change can happen through dialogue, allowing us to come together so we can fight a common battle.

Thank you so much to everyone who came out to the 2nd Annual PODEMOS Golf Tournament! Despite the rain, we still had a very successful event raising money for our brigades. We appreciate the generosity of the players and our sponsors! Great job to our fundraising team!!!

Hey PODEMOS supporters! We are looking for a donation of 1-2 large suitcases as pictured below. We use these to transport medications back and forth from clinic so they would need to be in good condition. Pictured here is Dr. Summit Shah, a radiologist that we have been fortunate to have with us on trips for 6 consecutive years, utilizing a portable ultrasound machine to help enhance care for several patients. Two memorable experiences this trip included diagnosing an elderly woman with ovarian/cervical cancer who was then able to receive follow up care the same day, as well as visualizing the devastating neurological manifestations of pre-natal Zika on an infant's brain.
