It was only when he found Transcendental Meditation decades later that he began the road back to himself. 42 years after the war, Jerry was confronted with his decades-old fear and hatred when forced to face his enemies once more when his youngest son moved to Japan and married the daughter of a Kamikaze pilot. During the last decades of his life, Jerry dedicated his life to promote peace and understanding between different cultures. In addition, Jerry moved to Israel for a brief time. The first time was in 1965, as a member of the US golf team at the Maccabi Games (he won a bronze medal). Jerry was an amateur golf champion, and continued to play right up to a few months before he died.

On the precipice of retirement as Head Seamstress at the Dior Avenue Montaigne workshop, Esther’s handbag is snatched in a subway tunnel. The culprit is Jade, an aimless 20-year-old who lives in a cramped apartment with her ailing mother, and spends much of her time robbing affluent strangers in the city. Struck with a bout of guilt, Jade returns the belongings and in a surprise turn, rather than handing her over to the police, Esther takes Jade under her wing as her dressmaking protégé, giving birth to an unlikely friendship.

What begins as a charming wartime romance between Jean—a sweet Catholic boy in Paris—and Annette—his feisty Jewish artist girlfriend—turns into a gripping tale of star-crossed lovers in this handsomely realized drama based on actual events.

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 14 @ 7:00P
Cinemark Stoneridge Gahanna | 323 Stoneridge Ln Gahanna, OH 43230

Tickets: $12 >> https://cjff.eventive.org/schedule/64fcb4217a184c0058b2e6ec

The setting is Nazi-occupied Paris, where Jews are feeling the tightening grip of a collaborationist French regime. When Jean reveals to his socially conservative parents that he has serious feelings for Annette, they prefer to wave it off as a temporary fling. But their deeply ingrained, and now politically approved, anti-Jewish prejudices will soon have grave consequences. The film brings to vivid life the true story of Annette Zelman, one of numerous cases that historians have documented revealing the role of ordinary French citizens in informing on their Jewish neighbors. As much as this French drama warmly remembers Paris’s idealistic wartime youth, Jewish and gentile, it pulls no punches about the shadow side of French society.

This evening is in celebration of Andrew Ethan Stern.

Known for her iconic hat and Bronx confidence, Bella championed women’s credit cards, LGBTQ equality, and diverse leadership.
