It is with profound sadness that I submit this notice of Troop closure, on behalf of Troop 2 and St. Matthew Lutheran Church of the Muscogee District, Chattahoochee Council Scouts BSA, effective December 31st, 2021.

It is resolved by the Leadership of Troop 2 and St. Matthew Lutheran Church (Chartered Organization) that Troop 2 will not be rechartered. This site will be kept open as long as possible for former Scouts and parents to access. Thank you to everyone who supports ScoutsBSA and our mission to mentor youth into adulthood.

Happy Trails and may there always be a light for your path.

John Daniel II
Scout Master (Ret.)

Troop 2 is sad to announce the passing of Mrs. Sandra Hansen. Troop 2 has lost another of our long time members. Mrs. Sandie will be greatly missed by Troop 2 and many others in our community.

DECEMBER 29, 1937 – JANUARY 18, 2021

Born in Pipestone, MN, she was the daughter of Marlin Stanley Sieg (deceased) who was the National Assistant Director of Cub Scouting for the Boy Scouts of America. Her mother, Suzanne Cooke Sieg (deceased) was a music teacher. She graduated from Cranford Senior High School in Cranford, NJ. Sandie was their only daughter of 4 children.

After graduation, she became an Airline Hostess for Capital Airlines. While working for the airlines, she met her future husband, Richard E. Hansen. They were happily married for 43 years before his passing in 2000. Together they had three sons. Sandie served as their Den Mother with them for 10 years.

Upon her death, Sandie had spent 40 years dedicated to Troop 2 of Columbus, GA as Committee Chair and assisted 86 young men to obtain the rank of Eagle Scout. In recognition of her exceptional character and for distinguished service to others within the Council, Sandie was awarded the prestigious Silver Beaver Award.

Regardless of who she was volunteering for, Sandie had a humble spirit about her. Her infectious laugh will be missed by many. She was always kind and giving, serious about her work and yet smiling as she did so.

In addition to her parents and husband, Sandie is predeceased by her brothers, Retired Major Gordon R. Sieg and Retired Captain Frederic M. Sieg.

Proud to say that Thomas has finished the physical work of his Eagle Project this past Saturday. Looks good and everyone stayed safe, if not a bit chilly. Picnic tables look great and the storm water management system is back up to s***f.

This has been a hard year for many of us. Troop 2 has lost two of our loved Assistant Scout Masters, Sam Marquez and Tim Starley to complications of the Covid19 virus this year. We pray for all the families impacted forever by this virus. Sam and Tim mentored many young boys into Scouts. Campouts and summer camps were always better with them there. They will be missed but not forgotten.

Thomas & Timothy are actively looking for donations and help with their Eagle projects. If you or someone you know wants to help one of these Life Scouts earn their Eagle, please contact us.
