All of the 4 pantries are in their respective locations! The yellow one was placed outside of Columbus Fit to service the surrounding area. The green one was placed right next to the little free library next to the community garden at FFY.

We are so excited to finally have all of the pantries out for use! Thank you to everyone who is filling them and has helped us with this project.

For those of us who haven't been paying attention to recent school board meetings, there has been a highly organized and vocal effort of anti-maskers trying to remove the mask mandate in our schools. We need to show our school board and our community that keeping our students and teachers safe through masking has popular support. This is no time to relax COVID precautions. Hospitals across the area are suspending non-emergency surgeries because there aren’t enough hospital beds.

Young Progressives of Columbus (YPC) has created a letter-writing campaign. There are step-by-step instructions on how to write a letter to the school board in support of the mask mandate on their website linked below.

Keep Our Students Safe. Tell the school board you approve of their decision to make masks mandatory in BCSC school buildings. The Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation Board approved a revised COVID-19 plan including mandatory mask-wearing by everyone inside BCSC buildings. We want the BCSC sc...

Thank you so much to everyone who showed up to the mutual aid swap and helped out in some capacity. We made a ton of new connections to community members and we are excited about future plans.

A recap for those who missed it: we were set up from 5-8 PM outside at Batholomew County Public Library's plaza. We had community members put their handprints on one of our Little Free Pantries. We donated leftover clothing items to Sans Souci and the left food and hygiene items in the pantry outside the library and the 2 Little Free Pantries we put out.

Two of our pantries are already in their respective locations. The blue pantry is in the Garden City mobile home area and the red pantry is outside the United Way building. We have 2 more pantries to put out. One will be put out FFY in front of the community garden and we are still waiting for confirmation of the fourth location.

As far as items to put in the pantries, hygiene items, food, and water are all good options. The Garden City pantry would definitely benefit from water since the water there has been contaminated for a while.

Stay tuned for future plans!!

Hello comrades!!

DON'T FORGET ABOUT OUR NEXT MUTUAL AID SWAP on August 9th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Bartholomew County Public Library Plaza!
For this swap, we will be focusing our donations and items on school supplies to assist our community in the upcoming school year.

We are also bringing one of our remodeled Free Little Pantries to show you all what they look like. We would love for you to come and put a painted handprint on it to symbolize is coming together as a community to supply this much-needed resource. Please also bring items for the pantries, we will be filling them and distributing them after our swap at the following locations:
-Garden City Mobile Community
-Foundation for Youth
-United Way Building
-Columbus Fit Physical Fitness Center (still needs to be confirmed a second time, but we will hear from them soon!)

All pantries will be located outside for easy access. Please join us in keeping these pantries filled! Here are some recommended items to fill the pantries:
-any canned goods, food, etc.
-toothbrushes/toothpaste
-feminine hygiene products
-cleansers/soaps
-snack packs like cracker packs or PB&J uncrustables

We hope to see you all at the swap!
Stay safe and stay healthy!

In solidarity,
Cbus SURJ

Columbus SURJ is working on creating Little Free Pantries to place around our Columbus community to help those in the surrounding area. Various groups in Indy and Bloomington have converted old newspaper boxes into little pantries to utilize, just like the pantry by the downtown library.
We have painted them the colors of Columbus (red, blue, green, and yellow) and are calling on you to help keep them filled!

Here is a link for a little bit more information about Free Little Pantries: https://www.littlefreepantry.org/

Thanks to all you came out to the Juneteenth celebration and the Crossroads Film viewing and panel.

We have another mutual aid swap coming up this Saturday from 12-3. The location is to be determined. If you haven't caught on yet, we want to be hosting these on the last Saturday of every month from 12-3 so they can be predictable.

We have a lot of clothes and toys from previous swaps to bring to this one. If people could focus on bringing food to this next swap that would be helpful. We plan on donating the leftover food to the pantry outside of Bartholomew County Public Library like we always do!

Also, this Friday, ASAP HUB Recovery Resource Center is hosting an event from 10 AM - 2 PM offering free HIV and HEP C testing along with free Narcan Nasal Spray. We highly encourage everyone to go get some Narcan, because Narcan saves lives. If you would like to read about harm reduction, here are some resources:
